I'm like you. And I'm young. Hate cities and agree that there are getting to be too many people up here, especially immigrants. You go to Walmart and feel like a minority.

That said, even though there are a lot more people up here, I don't think that they are gonna stay, especially with the declining oil prices.

PS: I have nothing against immigrants...Unless they're Illegal.

I agree Digg,
Been up here since 78. The dynamics of the majority of people that have migrated up here let's say the last 20 years are here for the $$ benefits. They sure take out more than they put in.

The mosquito is the state bird.
Winter is dark and lasts 6 months. Spring and fall are three months each.
Everyone in Alaska struggles with dope and alcohol.
The roads are terrible.
Everything costs a lot.
You wouldn't like it.

A cruise to Alaska is a lot like being in Disneyland.

This is a lot like "where is your favorite campsite?" Pretty soon it is too crowded and no good anymore.

Clovus,
I have some real reservations about giving advice on where to buy in Alaska. It depends on several things. Please don't be offended by some of the questions I'm going to throw out:
Question #1: Are you retired or have the means to a point of not needing a job when you get here? The last several years, an abundance of people/families have migrated north without the means to sustain living up here without being subsidized from the government.
If the answer to question #1 is no. Please reconsider and not move up here. Alaska is has enough financial burden on it now.
Question #2: Alaska has an abundance of resources. Hunting, Fishing, Hiking, Snowmachining, 4 Wheeling, Boating, etc.
How do you plan on getting to these available resources? If you plan on just using the road system, be prepared to be in the crowd.
