Last Saturday night my wife wanted to go to Super Walmart at 9pm. We came out at 10pm or so and as I was puting things in the trunk a young man I had nopticed coming down behind the cars past us and J hooked back and said Excuse me I need help. He said he was on vacation with his wife and there car was broken into at the hotel and all the cash they had was in the car and stolen. My wife looked at me and said Behind you! I turned sideways enoughh to find another young man about 20 feet from me with his arms outspread and coming up on me. As I looked at him he froze and looked down then pivoted and went off between cars to my left. I was armed but never drew and explained to the remaining man I could not help him but I could call the Police for him. He rapidly departed.
I had long ago told my wife to beware of people changing speed and rapidly aproaching . I think the first guy was setting me up for the other guy behind me. Have a plan with your loved ones on how to handle things and keep instructions short and to the point.
Walmart and the Police were informed but I don't knpw if anything came of it.

Head on a swivel. That goes for all adults in the group.
Glad you're okay

Good thing your wife had your back, litterally. He was probably going to try and get you in a bear hug, then the other was probably going to clean you out.

Good call for not drawing your weapon as nothing happened, but good eye.

Very good, very true, hard to teach. You're lucky to have her by your side.

I had my hand on my LCR but they showed no weapons just hands. So I held off. The one coming behind looked like he wanted to bear hug me and my putting my back to my car I was able to see both of them.

Another thing for us to consider about the story in the OP is the time you were at walmart. Statistically most mugging does occur at night so if you live in an area where things are a bit more sketchy at night consider shopping while the sun is up. Even those who are well prepared to fight off or end an attack would be wise to avoid one. The courts are not known for their support of vigilante justice. I on the other hand fully support vigilante justice

Well done on both parts! You guys make a great team.

I wish I could get my wife to realize that together we're stronger. She sees herself as a very vulnerable person, and me as the great big protector. But as I get older, I can use the extra eyes and ears. And as I've tried to point out to her several times, if I'm the only protector and the bad guys target me first, then she's got nothing. If we work together, she may be able to help me stay in the fight, or even save my life, and as a result, I'll be more able to help her as well as her being able to help herself.

So glad you guys avoided any troubles.

Az

Glad to hear you made it out of the situation safely, good thing your wife was looking!

A guy my husband worked with years ago pulled his vehicle over to light a smoke. He was in a crappy part of town and a girl approached him and told him her boyfriend had abandoned her there and she was scared and asked for his help. In the meantime her boyfriend tackled him from behind and beat him up and stole his car. Lesson learned for him the hard way.

EDIT: I can't avoid pointing out here that this is the reason why people don't trust one another! There are total douchebags out there that make one suspicious of everyone.

Your wife brought her A-game that night. I'm glad you got nothing more than a valuable lesson.

My father and I both had bad experiences in Wal Mart parking lots. He had an attempted mugging occur 10-12 years ago where he successfully fought with the guy and I had a guy shadow me through a store. I made several path deviations which he followed precisely albeit at a distance. When I was walking out through the garden center and had about 5-6 people around me I spun around to find him right behind me again. I asked him why he was following me VERY loudly to which he replied he was going to ask me for "directions" before rapidly taking off through the exit. The fact he was wearing drooping jeans and a hoodie with the hood up on an 85 degree day did nothing to reassure me.
