I have been looking at the NATO style gas cans and the best price i have found is around $50. Will the 5 gal. red plastic gas cans work as well for long term? They run about $10 apeice and with limited funds every dollar counts.

I've been using the red cans for about 5 years now without any problems. I rotate my gas every year - burning last years gas in my truck and car and refilling the cans with added stabilizers.

They work perfectly fine. I've got at least a half dozen.

I had good luck with the thicker plastic cans for a while, then I punctured one with a piece of wood kicked up by a brush hog. Now I am using steel for any fuel storage that I transport or carry into the field.
