Usually for my ortho appointment I wear a pair of shorts under a pair of sweatpants so the doc can examine the knee. Last week while I was in the exam room waiting for the doc's appearance, I slipped the one sweat pant leg off and all of a sudden I noticed how really hairy the leg was! I mean, downright wooley! Usually I don't shave them at all in the winter but I had just shaved both legs on Dec 22, the day before my last PT appointment. The other leg was still smooth! Hmmm....

As I was pondering this the doc came in. told him I was just noticing this big difference in hair on the leg that was operated on. He smiled and said it was because of the surgery. The body sends extra blood flow to the affected area to help healing and fast hair growth occurs because of it. He also said it happens when, for example, a kid breaks an arm, has a cast put on it and then when the cast is removed there's all this extra hair that has grown on that arm. It freaks parents out sometimes. LOL!

Who knew???!!!

Well, well, well, never knew that. That explains an incident I've kinda wondered about for years. Thanks for info.

Glad to know I am not the only one that grows a winter coat! My skin is so dry it hurts to shave.

What kind of knee surgery did you have?

I had a 16 year old replacement replaced. The plastic disk between the upper and lower parts wore out, shattered and caused the metal parts to rub each other into an unrepairable state.

It's been three and a half months since surgery and I can pretty much do what I need to do. Further recovery basically translates into being able to stand and walk for longer times. The pain is pretty much over with.

So if surgery makes hair grow faster what does that mean for men who have surgery to become women....?

My guess is the joy of a bikini or Brazilian was a lot more often!
