Default Beginner questions to concealed carry of knives

Advertise Here

Hi,
I'm new to concealed carry of knives. What do I need to know about concealed carrying of knives in the U.S.? Do I need to know about a certain blade length, for example? Does it pertain to the state I live in or is it a local thing?
Thanks

Yes it is by State first and maybe locally second.
If you live in a free state your okay. Arizona, where I live is very friendly with knives. But there are still locations where you can not carry. Also your age could be a factor.
Look at Knife Rights Foundation for some more info.

It completely a state by state, and sometimes city by city thing and varies a great deal so you need to look it up for the place you live as what is perfectly legal in one place may be a serious crime in another.

Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Sometimes gunfights are too close to draw your weapon, or you're strong arm is injured/pinned; a knife isn't preferred over a gun, but sometimes a knife can be used to create distance so you can access your gun. Besides, if heading to a gun fight, I prefer long distance, high-capacity, and 30 caliber if I can't get a hold of a mortar

In all honestly, I'm reintegrating into the civilian world, but I'm looking at downsizing my fixed blade (weakside carry).

My old fixed blade was the Spyderco-Perrin Street Beat:

Not sure how much more slim these two will be but I plan to try them out:

My preference is for weak-side carry, typically reverse grip considering the draw position. Again, I don't see a knife as a primary defensive weapon as I prefer to have more distance between me and the threat, but if the threat gets inside my bubble (big tactical error), this gives me an option if my strong hand in injured, pinned, or occupied; a good knife can create distance for a more effective kinetic defense.

Spyderco-Perrin Street Beat

Do they have a secure neck carry sheath option? Can't show knife in NYC. Must be concealed.

I switched to a ka-bar TDI belt knife. It’s easy to pull with either hand, hard to lose, light weight and comfortable to wear. Different lengths and edge designs are available. The price is very friendly.

While I mostly carry IWB (weak-side), or small of the back (horizontal scout-style), another option is the Merc-Harness. It's a simple 550-cord, figure-eight harness with a few rubber keepers. These are excellent for carrying a larger concealed blade (vice neck carry). It does require a secure sheath for inverted carry, but it works excellently and I much prefer them to neck-carry:

I don't carry these types of knives very well IWB, but they are excellent OWB (covered by a shirt or jacket), cross draw. I have and use the smaller TDI, Benchmade Azeria, and The Colonel on my Battle Belts; all are excellent.
