Thinking about picking up a half dozen of these weapons while I still can. Opinions?

Two American men in Italy stabbed a cop to death with that knife. Italy and the EU are already talking about banning "military style attack knives". Ever heard of an attack knife before?

Junk.

Let me rephrase. Years ago, some website or other was conducting "torture tests" on various fixed blade knives, and more than a little surprisingly, one of the best was what was advertised as a "Hard Use Knife" from the website Cheaper Than Dirt. Well, I ordered two, one clip point blade and one spear point. What showed up were two MTech knives, in supposedly 440 stainless steel. Now, I absolutely believe that these knifes, which cost $12.95 each, could indeed stand up to a lot of abuse if those exact knives were properly built, using steel with a decent heat treat, but my experience with budget Chinese knives is that there could be almost anything living under that black blade coating. Some people have stripped off the coating to find that the blade was either two separate pieces of steel welded together, or broken and welded back together. I had one from a different manufacturer that had rusted through under the grips and snapped off the first time I tried to use it.

There are always people posting about cheap knives that worked so well for them, and I believe that they're being truthful, but consistency just isn't there. My advice would be to spend $40 on a US-made Ontario Spec Plus, which will have a warranty and will last a lifetime. To put it another way, I absolutely have some cheap knives that I use under controlled conditions, such as for gardening, breaking down boxes, etc. If one breaks, it's not like it was an emergency. But for potential SHTF use? I'll spend a little more for verifiable materials.

LOL. Now I get it! I was about to say that any knife that sells for $25.00 is probably worse than a standard butter knife.

Stainless steel isn't an adequate description, needs a grade and hardness.

That sheath is thin leather sewn on a regular sewing machine. Note the lack of back stitching by the snaps. The belt loop snaps look weak too.

WTH is a leather wrapped aluminium handle.

Did the Marine's really authorize this 'knife' or is it more likely a ripoff.

China made knives with thin, cheaply made stainless steel blades. Edges will likely roll over or chip on easy jobs and the lightweight blades will break in half on tougher ones. The leather sheath is not quality made and certainly not full grain.

Look for vintage USA made blades. The older knives are 1095 HC steel. Easier to sharpen and way stronger steel. The further back you go the better the forging process from those good ol' east coast cutleries. One will outlast a dozen or two of the "USMC MARINE TACTICAL SURVIVAL Rambo Hunting FIXED BLADE KNIFE Bowie..."

A couple of examples:

You'll never again consider the others once you have the real thing in your hands.

AJ, you're the only one, apparently lol

Guys, the point was; one guy in Italy gets knifed with a cheapo Kabar clone and all the sudden these dreaded "attack knives" must be banned in the entire EU. That's the EU for you.

Over here, we get idiots who want to ban a rifle because of its color and "something that goes up". Our idiots can't even classify what makes an "assault rifle"....THEIR idiots, on the other hand, want to ban "attack knives".

I wondered what's the EU have to do with stocking up on some cheap knife here? I knew about the cop stabbing in Italy but the knife was so bad that I couldn't think of anything else but the knife. All I thought of is I have to help this poor guy who seems to know nothing about knives. Lol Yup, right over my head.

I've got a LOT of inexpensive knives! Probably as many knives as a lot of folks here combined. Not near as many as some here but I do buy a lot of inexpensive knives to give a shot. I actually did have a Kabar clone similar to that one shown and it actually turned out to be a pretty decent knife. My nephew has it now. But that post was about the EU and the banning talk. The "attack knife" cracked me up to no end! Sorry the officer lost his life, but it sure wasn't the super deadly "weapon" the reporters made it out to be.

Not a bad idea to stock up on knives, but personally I think this particular knife is just a nice movie prop,
For 25 + 24 shipping you can do better.
