Default Mormon Pioneer Book

Advertise Here

I searched for a thread on this and nothing turned up. There is an interesting book on Amazon titled "Forgotten Skills of the Mormon Pioneers". I'm wondering if any has this book and if it offers anything of interest to preppers? I'm not really looking for 19th century recipes for apple pie but useful things like off-grid animal husbandry, gardening, etc.

Thanks

I am interested to see if anyone posts about this book. Sounds interesting.

The LDS preparedness manual is a great resource as well, but animal husbandry isnít covered in it if I recall correctly.

My Grampa just seemed to know everything, without a book. Sorry I can't help there. Try just searching for Pioneer farming instead of specifying it be Mormon. They did things pretty much the same in non-Mormon Oregon as they did in Idaho.

If you luck out finding that book, look into Carla Emery's Encyclopedia of Country Living. It's a wealth of very useful information! I have 2 copies in case something happens to one of them.

There is a youtube video and some other info plus a pdf of the book although have to join and maybe pay to get the pdf. I hate paying for anything anymore especially if it is for free on the net. The link I used although people can search for the book on another search engine also > https://www.google.com/search?client...on+Pioneers%22

But here is a free download about LDS Preparedness that is somewhat similar > https://www.survivalistboards.com/do...o=file&id=1643

So to get free downloads of books, manuals etc. check out the survival files on this forum or do a search. I can email people quite a few pdf books, manuals etc also if they send me a message with your email.

Thanks for the replies. The book is available on Amazon and seems to still be in print. I was just wondering if it was worth purchasing.

This one is definitely worth the space it occupies on anyone's bookshelf.

I have read it twice and would strongly recommend it if you are building or restoring a homestead farm. He tells how to do things often the old way with out spending lots of money. I found it worth my time to read it and the money to buy it. Also he has written other books. SHEEP SUCCE$$. Drop me a note im PM if you get and read the book.

Ok, I have just spent over an hour trying to find a copy of the book on the net that is not $64.00, like on Amazon. I would not recommend getting it at this price. I think the Author may of died. Just guessing since I was not able to reach him by phone a few mounts ago. Conturyside Mag .com had his book Sheep Succe$$ for 14.00 + $4.00 shipping. About what I payed for Husbandry. I would check out the big and little used book stores on line to see if you can get a copy for a good price. I am sorry I had know idea it was selling for such an inflated price now.
