Default "Good" gun shops in north Georgia?

Advertise Here

Anyone know of a good shop in north Georgia that has reasonable prices and will order what you want without a long wait?
My local shop...Has gotten so bad, you need to be dressed in a suit and tie to even get waited on.

The newest shop I tried, lied about an order. Said shipping would now take two weeks...(hand guns must be shipped next day)

Big shop about 50 miles down the road...price was $65 higher than average..

Another shop, salesman says "you don't want that...get a Glock, it's what I carry"...

Instead of having them order what you want (and probably charge you their retail price, plus tax), why not just find a local shop that does reasonably priced transfers (like $25), and order it yourself? If they'll do the transfer, as most will, then all they need to do is fax a copy of their FFL to the on-lline dealer, and once it's on file there, you just call and give them your card number and other info, and it's in the mail.
If nothing else, a $25 transfer fee is almost always going to be cheaper than paying the tax.
Some really good operations that have huge selections and often the very best prices anywhere, and usually even free shipping, are BudsGunShop, and Kentucky Gun Store.
Other good operations to deal with are Aimsurplus, J&G sales, Classic Firearms, to name just a few.
This will get you the best price, with no tax, and possibly be quicker.
BTW, it's not up north, but if you ever get further south, then check out Barrows Automotive down in Butler,Ga. it's one of the best gun shops you'll ever walk into, anywhere. We've been making the occasional 2-hour roundtrip over there since the mid 1980's.

Still, even with that unusually high transfer fee, it might be better ordering on-line and having it shipped to them. If Buds has a $600 gun $50+ cheaper than your LGS,and ships for free, you still come out a good bit ahead versus paying the store's asking price, plus state sales tax. If my math is right, you'd save a good $60 in that scenario.
I once asked the guys at Barrows about ordering something i wanted, and he went and checked what he could do, and the price he came back with was noticably higher than I knew I could get it on-line for, plus I'd be paying sales 7% tax. I was better off ordering it myself, and paying another (closer to home) shop their $25 transfer fee.
Our biggest LGS (Shooters of Columbus) can be real jerks (as also confirmed by numerous reviews, and even folks here that used to be stationed at Benning).
They want $50 for a transfer, so I deal with other operations that aren't such greedy bandits.
One other thing, many of the big on-line retailers have a date base of FFL's in a particular area, that are already on file with them. Check their sites (Buds, Ky. gun shop, CDNN,etc.), you may find a small dealer in your area that you never knew about, and that is more agreeable on transfer fees. I've found others in my area this way, but they charged the same price, so I just stuck with my regular couple guys.

Default N GA shop

This may be a little late, but try North Georgia Gun Trader. Mark, the owner,
is a pretty straight up guy to deal with.

Mike, I have started to go many times, just haven't made it yet.
Is it a pretty good store?
I talked to some of the salespersons at a local gun show...Seemed to have pretty good prices.

They may have started a trend with the gun/drug store idea.
We have a new combo drug/gun store in Blairsville now as well.

Also, if you haven't checked it out, Ace hardware in Blue Ridge has a very good selection of guns as well. Prices seem good. They also do trades.
This is where i got my last revolver.
Shame it was lost in a tragic boating accident as well...

Blade,
I like Blue Ridge Ace and they are really nice people but as much as I prefer buying local I'm having trouble buying a rifle I want from them. Stopped in last week and checked on getting a Bergara Hunter in 30-06. The best he'd do was $750 and I've still got to pay tax on that. I can order it on the Internet and take delivery through Cherokee Gun for around $690. That's to much difference.

I did stop at Mikes and eat pulled pork sandwiches so I gave somebody a little business.
