I appreciate the kind words and your prayers!

While I do not feel your prayers will help him at Judgement, I do appreciate them and do not actually condemn someone who wants to pray in that fashion. I just do not agree it will sway the dead's outcome.

Thanks though!

However, intercession does not absolve one responsibility for saving his own soul but it can help. If you do not want to help that is another matter, but don't deny others their chance to help. That will not go well at the Judgement Day.

Look I would be lying if I said I have not prayed for someone after they have died...that their sins be washed away and be afforded the opportunity to wear white robes...and I do so out of hope. But I also believe in my mind it will not change their outcome...just only hope. It's human nature to do so.

Good! That is a duty of yours, especially with regard to your father:
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you. (Exodus 20:12)

Honor your father and mother (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth. (Ephesians 6:2-3)

You are looking at this from your temporal perspective, ie., that of a past, present, and future viewpoint - not that of God. God is immutable - unchangeable:
Every good endowment and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. (James 1:17)

"O my God," I say, "take me not hence in the midst of my days, thou whose years endure throughout all generations!" Of old thou didst lay the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They will perish, but thou dost endure; they will all wear out like a garment. Thou changest them like raiment, and they pass away; but thou art the same, and thy years have no end. (Psalm 102:24-27)
God did not witness the death of your father and then subsequently hear your prayers sometime later. He perceives both events simultaneously from all eternity. In our temporal existence we change from moment to moment - we were, we are, we will be. God is the immutable I AM:
God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And he said, "Say this to the people of Israel, `I AM has sent me to you.'" (Exodus 3:14)
So pray for your father with the assurance that I AM has heard you in a timely manner for what is a past event for you.
