This is the first that I have heard about
the state getting involved with this.

Many of us here are big into having
a large supply of food. The LDS folks
that I know have at least 1 years food
stored. Many have three years worth.
In rural Alaska, summer is used mostly
to get food and fuel for winter. And they
hunt and/or trap all winter.

after watching some of the Alaska/far NW Canada based reality shows ..... if I was working the pipeline and eating regular off the company's lunchroom ..... I'd have a boatload of my own personal survival foods as backup ..... there's just a narrow tether keeping things going up there .....

They are more reliant on the JIT infrastructure than most places, even if just air travel and boat travel was down, they'd be largely screwed. Makes sense, but they have been like that for decades. Why now? They feel something coming too.
