Is it a good knife ? Or should I spend the extra money and just get a KA-Bar ?

It's the original (first) offering from the SP line... and it still sells well today. Think of it as an improved version of the classic Ka-Bar/Camillus versions. Mainly because of the stronger tang and better grip ergonomics.

I do not own an SP1, but I've owned an SP15 since 2005. Took that knife with me to Iraq across three different tours. Did everything I needed it to and I never managed to break, chip, or bend it.

The SP series are good working knives, mostly based on classic blade shapes, and at affordable prices. Were I in the market for another USMC style "Ka-Bar"... I'd probably go for the Ontario version instead. It's arguably a better version of the old classic.

I have one and carried it a good bit when in the Army. There may be better knives out there but it's a great buy for a good working knife
