Default Feelings of hopelessness and despair

Advertise Here

I find myself dealing with feelings of hopelessness and despair. Not just because of COVID-19, riots, protest, fake news, economy, partisan politics.... but all of it combined.

States are partially locking back down, and the cooler winter months are just around the corner. There is speculation cool weather will allow Coronavirus to live longer in the air. I am concerned we may be facing an ever growing pandemic.

Fake news is fueling partisan politics. Someone on my facebook feed shared an article to Forbes that had a clickbait title. Once you read 3/4 way through the article it became clear the title had nothing to do with what was said. The article republicans would cap the next stimulus checks at families with 40k a year income. The author took what Mitchell McConnell said totally out of context. But unless someone was willing to read the entire article they would jump to conclusions based on the title.

News article said today there were 1.3 million new unemployment claims, which are fueled by states shutting back down. This is very depressing news that millions of people are being affected every week. The number of children wondering how they are going to eat is staggering. The parents who lay awake at night trying to figure out how they are going to pay their bills tears at my heart.

Major cities are edging towards lawlessness with people being shot in the streets. One man was holding his daughters hand when he was shot.

The absolute worst news that I can not even consider is, what would happen if Biden is elected?

I keep telling myself this is just another election year so of course tensions will be high. The communist / fascist / socialist left is growing more vocal ever few years. We have already reached a point where certain political beliefs are treated as a crime. The hate speech thrown towards conservatives increases every year. Now with cancel culture if someone says they believe in certain things, the left goes after their jobs, their families, their friends. It is no longer as simple as respecting each other as the left is waging a culture war on the right.

I feel the United States is going down a path that is slowly tearing us apart, not just with racial tensions, but with left and right ideologies.

Tired of typing.

This nation cannot endure unless we soon change paths. We can't keep spitting in God's eye and expect our blessings to continue. There is good news though, the end is nigh.

I feel it too. I have let it light a fire under my butt to get things done. Major home improvements and repairs. Major fortifications to preps. Major increase to my depth of knowledge and my abilities to gain information.

We have turned a corner. The whole world has. The whole world has also began realizing that they can't look upon the US as their savior anymore.

We have a cancer in this country that is deadly. Liberalism. We will have to loose some major organs to combat this cancer. Or we will die. If biden wins, our best plan is to hope we can secede the state of Texas and make a true republic.

I felt like that once.

Then I became a prepper.

All that is happening now, is the stuff I've been expecting to happen for most of my life.

It's almost a relief really.

What's the worst that could happen? Seriously. What is the worst?

We could die. Now maybe I've had a big share of **** in life and I'm just sick of it all, or maybe I've just watched too many Charles Bronson movies. I know I'm not bullet proof. But at times, it would seem to be a blessing if I got hit by lightening and died. Or hit by a truck or just went 'blech' and died in my sleep like my dad just did, and my late FIL did.

But, for the time being, life goes on, with all it's ****ty days and ****ty people that come and go.

I just try to think on things that are pleasant, like the bible says to do. I try to have coping mechanisms that help. Example, I stayed up until 4 a.m. last night painting. Started a 36x48" canvas, a landscape with wildflowers, bluebonnets. I can paint for hours and not think about anything. Literally, nothing. Painting does something to the brain that shuts part of it off while painting. Has to do with left / right brain functions, I don't really know how it works but it does.

It sounds lame, but think on pleasant things, like the bible quote. Philippians 4:8 is the chapter and verse. It's worth a read.

Try to find something to turn off your mind for a while, and do that as often as you can. Put in your time dealing with the *******s, then as soon as you can, get home and go back to doing what is pleasant to you.

I prep and am a survivalist, but the country’s situation is starting to look bleak. One doesn't really have anything to do with the other as far as causation.

What I feel is inevitable is why I have been prepping. I feel pretty good about what my family has accomplished in being ready for what’s ahead. I don’t relish in the coming suck, and it will suck regardless of how ready you are. If you aren’t ready for what played out in Rhodesia, you aren’t ready.

We all gotta die sometime.

It's much easier to function if you just accept you are already dead and stop worrying about it. If you manage to survive than think of it as a bonus.

I prescribe family time, physical activity, bacon, target practice, bacon, and at least one prep a day no matter how substantial. Oh, and more bacon. Did I mention bacon?

None of us gets outta here alive anyway, and even if it's not the party I wanted, I'm still gonna get up and dance...

All the best. As a wise man once said "This too shall pass..."

Jeeeesus, you own this forum, make tons of $$ with constant ads and you are depressed? OK, they say $$ can't buy happiness. But it takes $$ to prep and prepare and $$ is a big part of the battle. What would it be like if you were broke?

How would you feel if you were homeless? How would you like a mom like in the photo?

I used to spend lots of time with the homeless as well as anything else on the streets of L.A. and NYC. Makes you grateful for what you got. Go live with the homeless for a while that may cheer you up some.

Anyway, I cannot argue with any of your assessments. In fact it may be worse than what you have outlined. But that is the proverbial what it IS. That is what preppers prepare for. They may not have 100% success in their preps, but they can generally increase their lifespan some or a lot.

My advice.. .get sleep, cut back on the 'puter and news a notch. Sure we got to stay up to date, but just cut it back 30% or so and see how it feels. Eat some healthy food. Get some heart pumping exercise. I've been slacking off on all this myself, so that is where I'm coming from with a remedy recommendation. Yes, ALL these worries can make you sick!

...and if you got some spare time, go invent a patriot flamethrower.

Pretty sure republicans arn't suppose to complain about their own problems. With that said, yeah things are going to get bad.. but don't get down over the current situation, it could get a whole lot worse.

Every day there is worse and worse news I am noticing. The real danger is that you only have so much fumes to burn before the engine stops running.

It is tough times but the bottom line is get more done around the home. This really is a prepping paradise as we've been planning for this stuff for years.

Bad stuff is bad but much much worse things have been happening in other parts of the world, this is really nothing compared to what venezeula, iraq and syria experienced.

China has 70% of their country flooded that happens to be their rice growing regions. Russia is having massive enviornmental problems, in Canada 1 in 3 people is unemployed and the expected government deficit for the year is about 50% of gdp. Tons of companies are going bankrupt, sectors like oil and tourism are on the brink.. the trade war is amplifying the supply chain issues as companies that are shutdown on profit need to use their reserves to set up shop outside china. Whole supply chains that flow through china are cut off..

then there is now not only the pandemic but lockdown in china for the bubonic plague also, that has been there for about a year now.

But there is still beautiful nature, preppers have a chance to prep on task. I am having fun with some new prepping hobbies and using my downtime for learning more about prepping.

So even if things are bad, things really arn't that bad yet, a lot of the same, just that it is getting more notice.

Something to make things a little happier for you.. Biden is in trouble now because Kayne West is running for a Wakanda Styyle Presidency, and Elon Musk is backing him. It should be interesting to see what the odds of Kayne West winning the election are.. and what that would mean... so Its not just Trump and Biden but people have a third option now too.. Kayne West who says he will turn the presidency into a super powers factory.

It is pretty clear that Trump is having some difficulties governing right now not saying it is him, just a difficult situation with the pandemic. However, you probably wouldn't see much of Biden if he were president anyway as he wouuld probably just sta in the bunker in the whitehouse basement until things cleared up. Personally I find it amusing that the first lady would be Kim Kardasian if Kayne won. Not really sure what a Wakanda presidency would look like in America. Something bad?

Kevin be happy they will take your guns if you are sad.

Good new style for America?

Actually he dosen't, he sold it a couple of years ago.

But Kev, I have learned to turn the TV off and go play in my garden for a little bit in the early mornings when it's cool and in the evenings just a few minutes close to dusk, not neccessarily to work but just enjoy what I have actually acomplished and listen to the birds or go talk to my chickens. Chicken tv can be very entertaining at times.

If I watch too much tv and hear the constant bickering and being told how bad I as a white christian conservative type person I supposedly am I find myself feeling the same way. I'm not saying don't watch because we need to know what they are thinking but just take a step back and not watch as much and try to enjoy the life you do have.

And on the very much plus side for survival - none of us live downstream of the Three Gorges dam. So I have dam bacon privilege. It's a wrap!
