Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the Desert Eagle 1911's are just Charles Daly's with new markings. Apparently, Charles Daly use to import them, and now Magnum Research does.

With that being said, I would go with the SIG, no question.

About a year ago there was talk on Sig Forum of Sig's QC slipping. Was it a trend or just a few vocal disappointed buyers who knows. I did notice that Sig now uses the external extractor over the internal on certain models but have no idea if that applies to their 1911s.

For me warranty is a major factor and I love the fact that Smith and Wesson's warranty follows the gun regardless if you are the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd owner. Best of luck with your search.

I have two 1911's (Colt and Les Baer) and for that type of work also Sig 226 (9mm, .40 and .357 barrels and the .22 slide conversion for extra practice) as well as a Sig 220 .45 (also with the .22 kit). My 226 has the E2 conversion and the SRT as well. When I need a gun, and mean when I need one, it will be a Sig. My 1911's always go off, but there is never a problem with my Sigs. Another one that is not .45 but .40 and is great is my Walther 99c. No need to mess with any safety or hammer drop. Just my 2 cents.

Every Desert Eagle I have ever seen is jam-o-matic. The company doesn't have a good reputation for customer service.

Sig's reputation for quality is excellent. I don't recommend any gun with series 80 fire control parts.

I would look at a Springfield.

I found this Taurus for $488:

http://www.pistolandpawn.com/store/i...ducts_id=59594

Stainless for under $500 with a rail? The gold parts can easily be replaced or Duracoated..

Is it too pimp? Would i need to buy a fedora hat with a feather and a cane?..LoL I might just buy this one! Can anyone talk me out of it?

A buddy of mine has a Taurus 1911. His is all black though. He really likes it. But it doesn't see any hard use. He probably has less than 100 rounds through it. I shot 1 mag through it and it functioned well. I don't have anything thing bad to say about the pistol, and not enough experience with it to say anything good.

I fired a Desert Eagle once (one of the original big ones in 44 mag) and on the third round the firing pin came shooting out of the back and hit me in the chest. I will never touch anything from that company again after that. They are just big flashy guns meant to make the user feel big.

Out of the 4 Sigs I have owned and fired in the past I have never had a single failure. The craftsmanship was top notch and I would not hesitate to get another. Based on those experiences I would get the Sig.

I foolishly traded my Kimber Custom Stainless for another Colt, then on to a H&K USP.
Sounds like me....I had a Kimber Custom TLEII with night sights and custom Crimson Trace laser grips ($1200 package 4 yrs ago). Sold it ,and have regretted it every since.

Don't know anything about the 2 1911's in your OP ,but I would personally go with a long proven 1911 maker - Springfield Armory Loaded model . Parkerized go for around $800-$850 and stainless are obviously around $80-100 more.

I found a Springfield (cannot remember the exact model) online for a really good price. I'm waiting for a reply back. I really regret trading my Kimber, too!

Well since everyone is bagging the DE, I'll say this. I've owned a IMI Baby Eagle for over 12yrs, and it's been as reliable as any gun I've ever owned. Used it in many IDPA matches, etc. Granted this has nothing to do with their 1911, but neither does comparing it to their hand cannon.

I've never owned a Sig, but their reputation is stellar. I would probably own one if it had a thumb safety. It's all personal preference, but the lack of a thumb safety creeps me out.

I have Chip McCormick & Colt stainless mags, several grips, holsters, etc.. but no 1911 to put them on.. I guess it doesn't much matter what the stamp on the slide says as long as it's a solid and reliable 1911 under $800.

Desert Eagle, Sig, Taurus and S&W all have features that i'm looking for in my price range. I just have to decide if i want a shiny one or Darth Vader tactical black that i can hang things from. I've also read that 1911s with rails will fit in standard holsters but are just a bit tighter

Shiny guns look cool but are tactically unsound.

I just picked up a Sig Sauer 1911 Stainless Rail. It is simply amazing. The action is match grade as is the barrel. It's a tuned pistol at a mass produced price. It has Novak night sights, and the fit and finish is as good or better as most custom shops. Here's a cool review on the standard Sig 1911.

If a rail isn't a necessity for you check out a STI Trojan. Near your price point with a fiber optic sight from Dawson Precision and get great reviews from owners.

I've had the taurus 1911 and i loved it. I think it was 400+ but i had a gunsmith buddy to polish the feed ramp and dura coat the lower and externals. And a trigger job. All before i shot it. Its been one of the best 1911 or any pistol ive owned. It had the one peice guide rod to. Kicking my but for getting rid of it.

I would go with the Colt National Match in a bright stainless finish. Those other two are Colt Wantabees.
