In California filing a false police report is a misdemeanor unless through that someone was seriously hurt then the ante can get upped. They can also to a cost recovery on him for all of the wasted resources spent on this idiot's false claim. He on the low end of the spectrum will be fired and hopefully prosecuted. I'm reasonably sure the Sheriff's dept will go after him with a vengeance. If anything good comes out of this at least his character was brought out quickly in his career and got weeded out.

That is a very dangerous situation. A lot of innocent people could have gotten hurt or killed. He should go to jail.

A DA in a town near me is under fire because they want to sort through the back history of LEO s in the county and weed out the ones with recorded history of dishonesty before they get into the witness stand to be impeached by defense attorneys. It is sort of a plan to work ahead and keep them from making arrest reports. The defense attorneys already know the bad ones. The police union of course is up in arms because these cops will see there career reduced to traffic court.

But frankly, a guy like this has no future in law enforcement.

Mall cop maybe until he gets bored and decides to rough up middle school kids hanging out at the mall.

same test, races was weighted differently as I recall Caucasian was a negative. then they decided being a veteran didn't fit the image they wanted so the preference points were reduced .

at one point a minority female with a Hispanic surname scored higher for just getting to the test site. than a caucasian male vet that scored 100%.

a bullet hole doesn't look anything like a knife hole, should have been a tipoff there.

Also, snipers usually use a high velocity rifle, which would go through most body armor easily.

if they put him in jail, not only won't he be earning money to pay any damages awarded, but society will be paying a fortune to keep him in a nice jail.

Such a bold betrayal of the people he was trusted and paid to protect.

That isn't true. If they had two tests it could be proved they were discriminating against whites. They way it was done was to score candidates that weren't the preferred race low on their oral board exams. That way they couldn't contest being placed low on the hired list. If you failed someone they could contest it.

Hmmmm maybe.

Other possibilities are: anti 2nd views, or a cover operation for other criminal activity. I say that because of the massive response including swat being sent on what turned out to be a wild goose chase. Maybe looking for some paid time off.

Last but certainly not least, maybe just a dumb ass.

The city will hopefully sue the crap out of him.

I hate the usage of that word sniper. Seems anyone with a scoped rifle is called that these days.

The sad reality is that it there was no sniper, just a worthless cop with a pocket knife.

Typical .gov employee.

YOU CAN never under estimate what the job pressures can do to people. Lots of cops eat their guns. Others do something as a cry for help, but few are listening. Drugs, booze, all those things are in the mix.

We had a dog man who did his time in Vietnam. Did it honorably, got shot up a little, not a lot. SO, he gets a job on the PD is doing his job.. but the guy was a missile magnet. In the early and mid 70s we used to have mini-riots every week. Couple hundred people would get stupid and we would have to stop it. Anyway, it seemed if someone threw a rock or a brick this poor SOB took it in the head. Even with a helmet on a brick will ring your bell. He was injured a LOT. But, he kept showing up for work.

Went through all the usual family issues, wife finally walks because she no longer can take the job and him.

HE claimed he was getting hang up death threats at his home. They put a tap on the line but no one ever called. He got more paranoid. Then one night he calls and says he found a bomb under his car seat. Bomb squad arrives, removes it, nothing but flares and a clock all wrapped in electrical tape. The lab takes the bomb apart and they find the officers fingerprints on the sticky side of the tape. The guy just wigged out. He turned in his gear and we never saw him again.

Cops can get as crazy as regular people.

Cops are just regular people and they have issues too, like everybody else. Most are honest and hard working but a few ruin it for the rest.

Seems like maybe they could have determined this guy was a nut before handing him a gun and a badge.
Maybe that is their test. Give a suspected crazy person a gun and a badge and see what happens. Not the nuttiest policy I've heard come out of California.

There are still people in this world who can hit a 4" bull at 200 yards, OFFHAND, using black powder, cast bullets, and iron sights. If they ban scopes, they may be in for a surprise.

There is an old adage about monkeys and peanuts in a zoo that comes to mind. The Cops I know are older or retired and my main hunting buddy who just retired a couple of years ago has the number 3 in his county told me that a whole lot of the younger guys got issues , not all of them but more than enough to be a real concern , he told his boss when he retired , he might want to get a bigger liability policy because if current trends continue , they are going to need it. JMHO and S/FI!

I doubt this individual is suffering from she'll shock or trauma.

I'll concede that cops are just as likely to go nuts as anyone else, perhaps even a bit more given the job. But this guy......I doubt it's wartime trauma screwing his head up.

"NBC4 reports that Reinosa received unfavorable reviews during his training although it is unconfirmed if this is why he fabricated his story."

Really looks like he was on the road to being washed out, one way or the other.
