Default Why red Means Republican and Blue Means Democrat

Advertise Here

I ran across a video this morning that explains why Democrat states are blue states and Republican states are red. I never knew where the color assignments originated and they didn't make sense to me.

Red, after all, is the color of Communism, which better describes Democrat motives. Red is also a mood color denoting anger and violence, which has become the hallmark of Democrats since at least the 1960s.

Blue is the color of the North in the Civil War, and better describes Republicans. Lincoln was the first Republican president. Blue also denotes trust.

It turns out that the liberal media created the assignments. Whooda thunk they would get it backwards?

Being blue is synonymous with being sad or depressed. Since being a democrat would be sad and depressing, it only makes sense that blue is the dems. color.

Take red and blue and mix them together you get purple, the color of royalty, which is what these idiots suddenly think they are when they get into office.

I always thought the color selection was arbitrary. They could have just as easily chosen the colors chartreuse and blaze orange. Which would have made the MSM's election day maps way more festive...LOL

yeah, its mostly because the communist media.. which i might add has been working against american interests well before even the first world war, doesnt want their communist politicians associated with red, making it too obvious

we should start a movement to stop referring to states as red and blue based on a paradigm created by the MSM

I would make Republican gold and Democrats brown.

we should stop referring to states as red and blue because it's stone cold silly. New Mexico is a Republican state with 2 Democrat cities that outvote the rural population

Red is the color of military bravery, Perfect for the GOP. The British military used to wear red uniforms so they would not show blood if the were injured in battle.
Democrats should be colored brown. Brown is the color of surrender and cowards. The French officers should wear brown trousers.

Red and blue are a relatively new mechanism for identifying the 2 party system. Prior to 2000, there were no real color association.

The Reagan landslide against Carter had Reagan as blue.

whats that thing commies always say to do? accuse your opponents of doing what you are guilty of? so when in reality you are a full blown communist, associate your opponents with the color

IIRC it was also borrowed from the military practice of using markers colored Blue for US forces (NATO/Free World/Home) and Red for opposition forces (Warsaw Pact/Enemy/unfriendly foreign).

Which the media borrowed originally using as Blue for Incumbent and Red for Challenger. That was the driver for the 2000 Election where Republicans were portrayed as Red (Challenging) and Democrats as Blue (Incumbents).

Fast forward to 2008, and the courtesy was abandoned, with the media choosing Blue for Democrats and Red for Republicans. I guess they feared the imagery of associating Red (Challenger) with Obama's campaign.

So in the words of a famous former News Reader, "And that's the way it is..."

Red and Blue cuz our national colors

conservatives have taunted leftists by calling them 'reds' for many years. the tv people purposely switched colors to get away from that.

Why red means Republican and blue means Democrat - YouTube
Divide and conquer.

Why do you people keep forgetting that the Fortune-500 "capitalists" offshored to COMMUNIST CHINA? Right, left, blue, red. Everything made by Apple, Dell, consumer electronics, kid's toys, most clothing, most of the stuff on your Big Box shelf is made by the communists in communist factories. It's not a left-right or blue-red thing at all. It's how the global elite divide the global working people. I bet the average ignorant communist Chinese worker has been equally brainwashed by left-right in order to keep him coming to the job every day and hating the "right" in China.

Wait..so you are saying the left is all brainwashed into being ridiculous by the rich, but somehow, the right got the SAME brainwashing, and reached a totally different conclusion?

That is simply amazing!

Who'd have thought the global elite could do such a thing?

I don't care who is pushing what buttons...as long as stupid people keep pushing stupid politics to do stupid things to me and my country, I'm going to fight them, I don't care who is backing them.

One source:

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/histo...red-104176297/

Forget all that communist red stuff, he said. “It didn’t occur to us. When I first heard it, I thought, ‘Oh, that’s really silly.’ ”

When ABC produced its first large electronic map in 1980, it used red for Republicans and blue for Democrats, while CBS did the reverse, according to Wetzel. NBC stuck with its original color scheme, prompting anchor David Brinkley to say that Reagan’s victory looked like “a suburban swimming pool.”

Newspapers, in those days, were largely black and white. But two days after voters went to the polls in 2000, both the New York Times and USA Today published their first color-coded, county-by-county maps detailing the showdown between Al Gore and George W. Bush. Both papers used red for the Republican Bush, blue for the Democrat Gore.

Why?

“I just decided red begins with ‘r,’ Republican begins with ‘r.’ It was a more natural association,” said Archie Tse, senior graphics editor for the Times. “There wasn’t much discussion about it.”

Paul Overberg, a database editor who designed the map for USA Today, said he was following a trend: “The reason I did it was because everybody was already doing it that way at that point.”

And everybody had to continue doing it for a long time. The 2000 election dragged on until mid-December, until the Supreme Court declared Bush the victor. For weeks, the maps were ubiquitous....

I see very little evidence of anyone who subscribes to "left" or "right" as using his own brain, let alone coming to conclusions. Spoon-fed alot of lies, all of them. As my old man said, we live under the Golden Rule. The man with the gold makes the rules. And he's divided his potential opposition along irrelevant lines.

Default Blue (Right) vs Red (Left)

One site that has been using the more correct red (left) construct is Dave Leip's Election Atlas.
https://uselectionatlas.org/note.html
He has a link to a 1996 Time MAGAzine article that uses the same construct.
https://uselectionatlas.org/IMAGES/t...n-map-1996.pdf
Great resource for explaining the facts and disputing untruths to those that rely on urban legends to formulate their opinions.

Whenever I see red/blue maps now it takes 5 seconds to figure out who is who. For me it would be faster if red (commies) was democrats.

Someone should make a political map of corporations that offshore to communist China (red) and those who hire Americans hier in her heimat (blue). Might be a little more relevant to most of our daily lives.

Instead, we're basically like the Dakota and Chippewa in the 19th century. Divided, pitted against each other, a foreign power picks someone who is easily corrupted to "represent us", they sign on the dotted line, and we lose our sovereignty.
