Couldn't agree more ... 44 Mag has to be the greatest mass accepted pistol round ever designed. It'll do just about everything, including take a deer just as you described. Pair a good 1894 with a redhawk or a blackhawk and you are ready for just about anything in the woods.

My wife sure likes 357 Mag out of an 1894CB LTD though, and/or a 686-6 seven shot.

Both are excellent rounds. I've just never been able to put much stock in a shorty trapper version of anything in 357 Mag though ... seems like it defeats the purpose to me. 44 Mag in a short barreled carbine, yeah, no problem. But 357 Mag needs that longer barrel of a rifle.

I like 10 mm better than 44 Mag, there is just not enough platforms out there for it though. And if they ever come out with a 460 XVR Marlin, I'll be all over that to go with my pistol. 460 XVR is a serious round.
