Default Need a LOW COST Waterproof Scope That Doesn’t Suck

Advertise Here

Years ago I bought a cheap ebay “Tactical” scope...... You know, the kind with the built in laser and all that crap....... It turned out to be an awesome scope that held a zero after lots of shooting and abuse...... But the next one I ordered (same model) was a total POS.

I am looking for a low cost scope that I can put on my new SU16 .223/5.56 that will hold a zero after lots of shooting, trunk travel, packing and hiking....... Something WATERPROOF that will give my a decent group at 200-300 yards (2-3 inches?).

Is there anything under or at least close to 100 bucks that can do all that?

I like Bushnell. They should have a nice $100 scope.

$100?
Probably not.

Take a look at the refurb Vortex scopes at A&A optics

Gen 1 Vortex Strike Eagle

They just released Gen 2 so the Gen1 version should be had for cheap. Lifetime no questions asked warranty.

I just don't think I'd put any kind of trust in a $100 scope

Just my .02 cents

Really hard to beat the value you get with Vortex. It does
Suck they’re made in China. I’m not sure I’ll buy another at this point because of that.

Not all models are, some are made in the Philippines and Japan.

The Philippines and Japanese made scopes are of decent quality, Japanese and S Korea the best of the Asian countries, Philippino is next (Nikon)

This is why I've shied away from buying Vortex, they are going they way Simmons did

I bought a Simmons back in the 80's when they first came out, great scopes, decent prices and made in S Korea (I still have that scope)

Then I bought the new Aetec scope, made in the Philippines great scope and a lifetime warranty

As the years have gone by and the company has been bought and sold, all production has gone to China.

So my Aetec went bad, now if I warranty it, I'll get a Chinese POS.

Right now, I'll only buy Leupold, never again will I get swayed by some kind of American company selling cheap scopes

Even Tasco, back in the early 80's had Japanese scopes that were great quality but it seems all production always goes to China except Leupold

Now Burris and Redfield are made outside the US

Vortex are great right now......but if it ever goes bad, the replacement won't be near as good

I have been running Vortex for around 15 years and have zero issues with my optics.

If I do have to return a scope and I receive an inferior product in return then I will just get a Nightforce or Trijicon

Leupold owns Redfield (2009) and all Redfield scopes are now made in Beaverton, OR plant. They carry the same warranty as Leupold. Currently the Redfield Revolution is all that is produced.

Beretta owns both Burris and Steiner. The Burris Greeley, CO plant assembles all Burris scopes, but the parts are sourced from international suppliers. The majority of the glass is from the Philippines. Steiner’s popular T5Xi & P4Xi are made in the US. The H4Xi and GS3 scopes are made in the US. The lines between both brands are becoming more blurred with the quality and cost being blended by the cost of labor based on tariffs and the cost of parts based on country of origin. Both scope lines still produce very high quality scopes and their cost reflect this.

The "Better" are made in Phillippines (as Nikon). Their "Best" are made in Japan. They can't be bothered to learn their business and set up mfg in the US. Getting hands dirty with manufacturing is just so icky for "business school" types.

IE - PLA. The chicoms are the enemy of the US. If you are buying equipment that has an outdoors/firearms purpose you are directly funding the damn PLA.

Will you be funding my future purchases then?

Things have changed, you might update yourself

Last I heard the Redfield Revolution IIRC was the only scope made out of the Oregon plant

Seems I read somewhere that even that production has gone outside the US.

Burris has largely gone outside the US too with some scopes, maybe not all but at least some.

That being said, most all of the US scope manufacturers send their glass out to be ground with Japan doing most of the high end stuff even with Leupold scopes
