Bugging out to Nevada

I've had it with CA. 16 years in CA and I refused to become a resident. Thankfully, I had the right to domicile as active duty. But I am done with this godforsaken state,

So I am looking for desert places fairly close to the upper mojave (Ridgecrest, CA) so I can be within striking distance to go back to my place in CA, keeping it for a few years as a meeting place for the family. It will take that long to clean it out and fix it up to sell, lol.

I like the idea of Mina or Goldfield so I can pretty much bop around on BLM land camping and prospecting.

Armagosa Valley seems nice since it is only 1hr 15mins out of Vegas, but not Cook County.

Or there is always Beatty, the closest NV town to me.

I am planning to stay at an RV park for a few months until I can get my residency requirements fulfilled, then it's Nomad Prospector status for me. Eventually once I sell my place in CA, I'll have the money to buy something in NV. By then I'll have a better idea where I want to live.

Actually, think hanging out by the Ghost Town of Aurora and it's prospecting and history would be pretty cool. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora,_Nevada

So I should make new threads within the NV section for the questions I have, but I'll stick with this one unless I need to get more clarification.

First I've decided on Mina or Amargosa Valley. Is there anybody from Mina or Goldfield on SB?

As mentioned I actually am thinking of the RV park in Amargosa Valley until my residency is established. It's close to Pahrump which has more services, ie: Mail Services, CCW class, and secure storage available for me.

Here's a big problem. Of course I am bringing my collection, but I really don't want to leave them in my trailer at the RV Park when I am not there, especially if it's for a week. I have called gun shops in the Pahrump area and they don't have firearm storage. BTW, the kid at Stockpile Defense was extremely courtesy and helpful even though there was no financial benefit to him. Of course I plan on taking my CCW through them now and purchasing a firearm through them.

Does anybody know of anything outside of Vegas? First by the new law, if I leave them in CA until I get settled, than I could possibly be setting my daughter up unless we pay $30 each firearm. Second, I really don't want to be burying them up in some old mining camp. Third, storage site contract explicitly states, no firearms or ammo, besides I would rather bury than put them in a storage unit.

Well I now have everything set up. All I have to do now is wait until it cools down a little.

Oh, I need to get the brakes done on the trailer and new tires. Also going to bolt my gun safe into my trailer to take care of security for short term. Still looking for long term solutions.

I'm not sure living walking distance from a Casino and Brothel is the greatest idea I've ever had, but it sure as heck is going to beat CA.

Live in Reno and as a truck driver, been to/from Vegas more than once. A former tenet and her husband bought a place in Mina about 4 years or so when she got a settlement payment. Think she said her place cost her 12K. The closet big name grocery store (Safeway) is in Hawthorne, after that, it's Fallon. There aint NOTHING in Goldfield, with closet store (Safeway again) is in Tonopah, other wise, it's Vegas. There's also Luna (?) which is between Mina and Hawthorne. Here's a link with comments from people on towns between Vegas and Reno.

If I can find it and get the okay, will send you ex-tenets phone number so you can talk with them what it's like there.

And the first step to bugging out of CA, from a psychological perspective, has been taken care of by the illustrious Mods and Administrator of Survivalistboards.com. Thank you Mel, Mike and especially Tabi who made the change.

My 5 year old SB account name of Swen_in_ca is now Swen_out_west.

California, predominately Sacramento, can go fly a kite. lol.

I have lived in Nevada for 30 years, but my official stance to people from somewhere else is that it is an acquired taste. I worked with the mining industry for many years.

Mina is a curious choice, but mining is what it is all about.

Best of luck. I hope you find the elephant.
