Reading that article, the publishers should be horsewhipped for fostering so much fear in people. Its like they take pleasure in terrorizing people. That article drips with malicious glee behind the fake oh so sensitive facade.

I can recount going not days but weeks or months without electricity during the hot late summer from hurricanes. And ya I'm still here. Did not freak or **** my pants and was not afraid. I could clearly see what needed to be done and figured out ways to do it. Maybe not the best or easiest ways but I got them done.

The constant harping on fear fear fear. People need to have the **** slapped out of them and told to get a grip. Fear is the biggest enemy a person can face. To become paralyzed by it and what might happen is stupid. Sorry but ya it's stupid.

Please pardon my lack of sympathy and harsh tone. Millions of people do without all over the planet and they're not filled with terror. Holy ****.

I just cant help but feel someone is getting rich(er) off of this event.

I cant help but feel like people are suffering due to darker motives than forest fires. Such a convenient excuse to grab power no?

Nah. When there is a choice between malicious intent or beurocratic incompetence. The smart money is always incompetence.

Reliable power costs money. Bushfire prevention costs money. Disaster management costs money. And is all very easy to shuffle off to the side as too hard to deal with right now.

And then they all just collapse at once and you have a mess on your hands.

The big difference is that 'doing without' is their standard operating procedure. Nothing to fear, nothing unknown. I lived in a one room cabin, with no power, etc, etc. But that was 'normal.'

Take any behavior and suddenly curtail it, and you will get chaos.

The Amerindians couldn't handle life that was not based on hunting / gathering. Self sufficient farmers couldn't handle being driven by economic pressures to become factory labor. When factories closed, workers panicked at the thought.

The modern consumer boomer accustomed to cheap and plentiful power, pumping water, providing light, keeping warm, and connected to the world is certainly going to feel the lack thereof.

If this goes on, let's party like it's 1899!
Or more likely, like it's 1839!

I wonder if they tried just making the fires illegal? The answer might have been staring them in the face.
