Default At&t TO OFFER ROBOCALL BLOCKING

Advertise Here

I had recently started a thread on weird telemarketing call numbers, but felt this news deserved it's own thread.

In June FCC ruled cell providers could offer call blocking for robocalls.

This is great news, and should have been addressed much sooner.

AT&T has gotten in first.

We shall see if others follow.

I think this is going to make it easier for violators to be caught and fined/shut down, as the service provider can find/locate them much easier.

I have also read a descent article that talks about telemarketing calls at https://www.whycall.me/news/my-4500-...-telemarketer/. I think people might also want to try to sue them if they get too many robocalls.

Verizon just started that as well, but they charge a monthly fee. The message that pops us is "Probable Spam", but they don't display the number, which is stupid. The phone still rings and you don't know if "probable spam" is real spam. I did the trial but thought the service was pretty much worthless.

If you are going to block spam, simply block it and never let it get through.

What is hard to believe is that these telemarketer scumbags make any money at all from their antics. Someone would have to be pretty stupid to fall for their pitches or wish to buy their products. Oh, wait. That explains everything.

This should've been available about 5 minutes after caller I.D. became available. I guess better late than never though.

The problem is that telemarketers can make calls look like they are coming from numbers then they actually are so caller ID wouldnt help.

Good, but something seems to be going on with text messages these days. I keep getting messages from unknown phone numbers with convsations geared like I'm supposed to know them. They usually have a string of recipients. I just delete them, but they're becoming more frequent. The content is variable, but mostly fitness relate..

Promises, promises, promises... I'll believe it when I see it. They always promise this crap and a week later, the robocallers are at it again. Honestly, they are smarter than AT&T and the other providers.

I got a call last night that said they were from the Social Security Administration and that my SSN was involved in some crime and my SSN was being suspended if i didn't call them back right away. That got reported.

Problem is, they are not telemarketers, they are scammers
usually from india. The call from spoofed numbers made to
look like local area numbers.

Reporting them does absolutely nothing because they are
scammers and criminal dont follow the rules.

Cant block them, at least for me anyway because it still gets
sent to voicemail and checking dead voicemails are just as
annoying

I do love to mess with them though. If im at work I just
answer and never say anything.

It does get to the point where my number gets flagged and
they either quit calling or hang up right away. A lot of
times the calls quit for a while then start back up month or
so later.

AND yes, people fall for the crap all the time and these
scammers are making bank on the elderly and idiots.

My phone doesn't ring or vibrate unless the caller is a favorite in my address book. I suppose it is nice to have blocking for junk calls further upstream but for me, it hasn't been a problem for years.

We switched software in my office this spring. Our incoming and outgoing calls are now prefaced with a msg stating the call will be recorded. Oddly enough, every single robo call we used to get is hung up the instant the msg starts to play! :shockedface

It's been amazing. If you can find a service that does something similar, you'll most likely love it!

Yup. A few years ago I got to spend some quality time with US Customs investigating whether or not drug deals were being made from the conference room of one of our offices.

So even the cartels are doing it.

Not happy.

Before this, I simply blocked the call with 2 touches of buttons.

Now, the process:
About 10 steps, requires a pin they message you, then signing up for a paid service. Took me 10 minutes to get to the "enroll" screen. An no option for free blocking anymore. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

So I have to PAY to not be bothered by telemarketers now.

Yes, if it's a human you can answer and waste their time or simply not say anything, or just set the phone down and ask questions and tie them up for a few minutes while you go about your day. I often do that when someone calls and goes into their long intro.

They always do come up with creative ways to snatch more cash out of consumers' hands.
