Ditto for ad valorem taxes.

Absolute ownership of private property is an endowed right not subject to taxation nor regulation - unless you CONSENT to be governed.

Interesting anecdote:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...s/messages/517

... I then ask him to see the law that requires a man to submit an
application for any thing, including a building permit. He pointed
to the section of the code that he had pointed out to me before.

I told him that the section he was pointing out did not require any
man to submit an application for a building permit, it only stated
that no building could be built, altered or remodel without first
obtaining a permit UPON APPLICATION. I asked him to put the last two
word at the beginning of the sentence and read it again. UPON
APPLICATION, no building can be built...."

It is only "UPON APPLICATION" that no building shall be built. My
question to you sir is where is the law that requires me to "submit
an application" for the permit since it is only UPON APPLICATION that
no building shall be built, altered, or remodeled without obtaining a
permit.

He stood silent for at least 15 seconds and then said, "There must be
a law or ordinance somewhere." Good, then bring forth that law.
. . .
To make a long story short, the zoning officer never got back to me
so I went directly to the Township Supervisors and asked them to
bring forth the law that requires me to submit an application for a
building permit. I did not hear from them so I called one of the
supervisors at home and he said to me:

"I asked our solicitor if there was a law or ordinance that requires
anyone to submit an application for a development or building
permit?" The supervisor then said, "You know, it is the damest
thing, that solicitor just stood there, looked me square in the eyes,
and said, "I am unable to answer that question." Then he walked away.

Notice he did not say he did not know the answer to that question,
only that he was UNABLE to answer it.

And you can trust lawyers - they're your friend ! [/sarcasm]

Please take pics and take notes!

I don't know when I'll be able to pull away for 2 days and head up to northern (true northern) Cali.

Will do, we are going to be busy the next couple of weeks moving our travel trailer up to our property in Paradise and getting it set up. After that I hope to have some free time, I will let everyone know.

When I/we decide to go, I would like to contact the selling agent and ask if I/we can spend the night on the property. No open fires or anything that could be an issue. I have a Coleman stove and pots and pans in my BOV to cook on as well as canned food and an ice chest with some fresh would suffice I'm sure.

Good deal, I'm pretty well set for two people for a week as long as there is water near by (I only carry 5 gallons and a gallon or two of bottled plus a sawyer mini filter to replenish). But I do have a tent, tarps and most of the basic necessities.

I did find that after going to the range a couple of weeks ago, I am going to add a quick setup dinning canopy.

Yes, I’d love to see it and the area. And get to meet you. Let me know when you think of a good time. I agree, cooler weather is better.

I can bring tent and camping supplies if the agent says okay. I’ll have my daughter with me and leave my dogs home.

Iíd love to meet you too. I agree about forward movement. Even if we get a small group together and actually buy a property, itís going to take many years to really put it together. At least thatís been my experience.

I bought a house on an 8,500 sq. ft. Lot. Planted fruit trees around the perimeter and raised beds in the middle. I was there for 10 years.

Now Iíve had my much smaller house on just over 1/2 acre for just over 4 years and the gardens are just starting to really come together. But Iíve worked like a dog and am still way off.

It just takes time, work, money. Unless youíre all rich. For me it takes time.

yes it can be a challenge for sure!. should this play out well, it will be a real game changer for all involved. if you guys get a chance please check out the you tube channel for "bear independent". He is probable the most knowledgeable and reasonable pepper on the net in my experience, but his approach to homesteading is all about showing the actual work that it takes to make it successful. Im excited to meet you all as well.

Sounds good! I might even get my wife to come along as long as it doesn't interfere with her work. Which at the moment leaves Saturdays out. But lets play it by ear and see how it works out.

Looks like a bad time to visit the property right now. The Redbank fire is right in that area, 7000+ acres and 9% contained the last I heard. Then again, the price could come down even if it doesn't burn.

I was thinking about heading up that way, but I see the property has been sold or is no longer listed. I will keep my eyes out for something else. There are a few other properties in the area for under $1,000 an acre but they are mostly 160+ acres although a few do have year round streams that run through them.

I’m not seeing it showing in the sold section. There was another property for $111k with a pond I thought belonged to the same owner. I’m not seeing it as sold either. I think they both were taken off market until spring.

That could be, we can hope so. It looked like it had reasonable potential.
