lethality or knock down power? that’s what were talking about right?

I will make this theoretical comparison then, you stand 60' 6" apart from me, I’ll have a regulation weight / size cue ball (very aerodynamic and legal to carry) and you have a mall ninja throwing star (not so aerodynamic and illegal to carry)

we both throw on 3, if I’m in the shape I was back in college I could hit a 12" x 12" square at about 86mph, ( on a good day 87) how about you?

Who do you folks think will walk away?

I knew a guy in college that was pro pitching caliber, he used to win bets on whether or not he could put one through a cars windshied at 30'. most of the time he could. can you imagine a cue ball launched by someone who knew what they were doing with a sling?

I would not bother....in most states having these things in your possession would get you arrested. In California it is a felony to have just one in your possession. I don't know about Texas but you better make sure before you buy some.

As far as using them for what you stated is not a good idea. I think by the time you pull one out your assailant will be already on top of you. If you have to run then just run and forget about distracting him or her.

Say the average man runs 7 MPH

7 x 5280 (#feet per mile) = 36960

36960/3600 (# seconds in an hour) = 10.266667 feet per second

So if your assailant is 20 -30 feet away from you, you've got 2, maybe 3 seconds to pull, throw, maybe twice? And he's not gonna know what yer tossing at him.. so he'll keep coming, and if ya hit him... with his adrenaline pumping... that'll most likely just tick him off MORE..

If the shuriken was such a great weapon then there'd be tons of stories about them being used in in WWII....

There's better alternatives.

IF you learn how to throw them expertly then it won’t hurt to have one or two in a pocket ready to go. Think about it, someone pulls a knife on you and starts to come at you, imagine their surprise when a sharp star sticks them in the head or chest… the “Shock facture” will give you some time to get away… I mean it would only take maybe less than 3 maybe 2 sec’s to get it thrown…

Same will go for throwing knives, some can be strapped on your wrist to grab fast… but you better know how to throw the knives… They take more skill then stars…

I have seen stars thrown into a man... Not a pretty sight and he was just stunned...

The ones that would be even remotely effective would be too large and sharp to stick in your pocket. Pocket concealable ones are just modern fantasy toys that would be about as effective as a small rock, but more clumsy.

I think he is on the right track. My survival gear included ninja stars, ninja sword, ninja suit, throwing stars(x24), throwing knives(x24), ninja mask, ninja axe, ninja spear, ninja gas balls, ninja disappearing balls, ninja glock, ninja ak-47, ninja battleship, and a few other ninja things. Now that I'm older than 12, I carry modern gear.

Ummm, you left the part out were your pursuer punches you in the face when you have to turn around completely to throw the ninja star. That is unless you know the art of running backwards and throwing at the same time. And lets say you can hit the dude chasing you, they will STILL chase you because you made them mad and did not seriously injure them!

A wood yo-yo is many times more deadly than a ''throwing star''. Chances are someone wants to do bodily damage, they'll be packing heat. The good ol' days of the ming dynasty are over. Ninja stars are conversation pieces and nothing more.

you can always save your money, and get the roofing nails, like the 1$ nails, And cut the head off, and sharpen both ends... and you got your self a nice sherukin for a dollar. and you can also use them to stab with too not just throw.. and to gouge stuff.

and then you dont spend 25$ for one... you spend 25$ for 25... and you can posion the tips and leave them stuck in, and just pull out another one, and if they run off, no big deal they werent expensive...

and also, baby powder works good as "blinding powder" just mix it with some sand, or some other chemical you made in your home chemistry set..

Okay kiddies, throwing stars aka Shuri-ken "hand thrown blade" were common back in the days before tetanus vaccinations. They were typically made from door hinges and the rustier the better. They were never designed to penetrate deep enough to do any serious injury. They were designed to poison with tetanus (lock jaw)- a horrible way to die. Think about it, just how long are those tips? With a razor sharp tip you might penetrate a torso 1/2 inch. No organs will be damaged, and no major blood loss. So if you got some poison dart frogs in your home terrarium go ahead and coat them up.

+1 here - what a hoot.

Seriously, you really can't go past a poorly aimed spray of lead and full-noise from a little TEC-9 as a distraction, while you run away. And, hey, if you decide non-lethal is NOT the answer -> same thing, only point it AT them.

omg! This thread just got better! Now we are throwing cut up nails! LOL! 25 of them to be exact!

I would type more but have been mysteriously blinded out of no where by baby powder!
