Yeah... good luck with that, on modern 2013 armor maybe. If its more than 5 years old and you feel brave enough have at it.

Take a look at the posters on these forums regarding armor. Multiple posts on homeade and improvised armor.

Why? Because the modern armor capable of defeating exactly what we discuss is expensive... some of it prohibitively so.

Some reader on here is going to find a Class I or II vest from 1995 (or earlier) for sale cheap and pick it up KNOWING that it will defeat a .22 from a rifle based on your testimony... not taking into account the years of wear, degradation. exposure to heat/cold, cleaning chemicals, outright abuse, etc. Are you comfortable with that?

There is a reason that manufacturers put a warranty date on that stuff, they dont want the liability on an item that is beyond its useful life.

One of my old partners was shot high in the back by a man with a .22 rifle from about 15 feet back in the early 90's. It completely penetrated the vest and went far enough into his body to hit the bone. The vest did prevent it from being a fatal shot, but did not capture the bullet.

You believe whatever you want, hell test it out on yourself if you want to.

I'll still stay with what the manufacturer recommends and warranties.
