One other thing.... 1970's are a good age for boats. They didnt fully understand the strength characteristics fully yet and the material was still cheap. Therefore most manufacturers overbuilt their boats. My C&C is a perfect example (1974) where the fiberglass is extremely thick and therefore makes for a very sturdy boat.

I used to know a number of Yachties who lived for months at a time, years in one case, sailing around and staying on the unihabited small islands that abound in Micronesia.

Plenty of fresh water and fruit on the islands, lived on that and fishing/netting, mainly.
