Default 7.63X39 Bolt Action

Advertise Here

I'm asking because I've never seen one. Does anyone make a modern bolt action long rifle chambered in 7.62X39? Seems like it would be a nice addition for those in the AK community. I'd be interested in one as well I think..

The Rugers take Mini-30 magazines. Would be cool if someone made one that takes AK-47 magazines, but I also have a Mini-30 and a bunch of magazines so for me it didn't matter when I got my Ruger American. Would have preferred AK magazines though

I'll search for those. While looking at the CZ, I read a couple of articles that said some manufacturers discontinued the 7.62 round, but there may be some still out there.

Does anyone know if Cz bores them to 308 or 311?

I've considered one of these a few times but that unknown has always kept me away.

The CZ is accurate and very nicely done. Ruger American Ranch Rifle model 16976. Takes Mini-30 mags. Yeah, the mags're expensive but the rifle is a tackdriver. Threaded barrel and a rail. Its $420 from sportsmans outdoor superstore.

CZ claims they are set up to run Euro ammo, steel or whatever, and the bore is .311.

I have an Argentine Mauser rebarreled to 7.62, the guy that did it put lots of free bore into it, so if I load my own LONG ammo, itís shoots like a dream with .308.

Not all X39 is cheap steel cased russian imports loaded by gulag convicts using a powder dipper and bullets with the lead poured in soft steel jackets by hand.

Why 7.62x39? Compatibility with an AK or SKS? Doesn't have anything over a .30-30, and there have been plenty of those.

Add, Mossberg MVP to the list.

an x39 bolt gun is one of those guns that I really want but can't justify on any practical terms as I already have x39 AR's and AKs.

Because it is there.

Deer here run about 120 on the hoof. 308 is over kill.

Recoil is mild making it a good introduction/training Bolt action for new shooters.

Unless you reload 30-30 ammo is all hunting type. There is no cheap plinking 30-30 on store shelves.

Lastly, Why not?

My thinking was a rifle like that would be nice if a person is heavily invested in X39 weapons and ammo. Keeps a person from having too many different types of ammo.

120 lb. deer? You must be in Texas. You could about kill those lil' fellers with a slingshot.

And there's my normalcy bias showing. I reload everything but 9mm, and the .30-30 is a near-perfect reloader's cartridge, especially if you cast your own bullets.

Gotta friend that owns the Howa and I've shot it. Absolutely fantastic trigger and that little gun is crazy accurate. I watched him put a round through a whitetail at 187 yards, blowing through the top of the heart and the animal ran 30 yards.

He bought the gun with the mentality that if his AK's were "bought back" one day, he would still have a gun that could shoot the thousands of rounds of 7.62x39 ammo he has stored.

As it would be, the little gun has turned into.... the first one he grabs from the safe when he heads out on a hunt. ....accurate, effective and very little recoil.

He gets sub-MOA with his hand-loads and 2-3 MOA with Russian-Cheaps. And... he doesn't blink an eye to run steels through that gun and they cycle smooth and easy.
.......

Good thinking.

Back when I had a Mini-14, I bought a Stevens 200 bolt action in .223 for that exact same reason. Mini is sold on, but the bolter is still here, along with the ammo supply.

Ammo cost alone justifies the 7.62X39 at my house. Cheap shooting and you don't have to chase the brass. The round has plenty of horsepower for hogs, deer, coyotes, and most other things seen here in Texas. Here's my little AIA M10 that's no longer being made. Any AK mag will work in it. I also run an AR-15 in 7.62X39 that is suppressed for larger groups of hogs.
