Default US Media knows little about Australia.

Advertise Here

Several US news organisations are having a bit of trouble with Australia- first putting Sydney several thousands miles away from where it should be, then overstating the gravity of some of our fires (apparently a controlled burnoff way up in the Territory is as serious as the runaway Blue Mountains bushfires....)

http://www.news.com.au/national/nbc-...-1226746826327

Then, Time magazine makes some mistakes- at least they own up to them at the bottom of the page- most newzz mobs would just correct the error and pretend it never happened.

http://world.time.com/2013/10/23/aus...minister-says/

Fact checking is apparently a lost art for these folks....

Events in Australia just don't matter as much to Americans as events here matter to Australians.

Sorry.

Sorry.
Accurate news reporting matters. Nobody would care if the bushfires were not mentioned.

Isn't that because China is buying up all your natural resources?

The US media might know a great deal more about important things in the US, but they're certainly not reporting it.

I really feel a collusion between main stream media and the current administration.

Maybe feigning ignorance of Australia is just so it's not so glaringly obvious?

We know plenty about Australia. You have kangaroos and koalas there, everyone says "G'day mate!", and dropbear attacks are on the rise.

EDIT: oh and you have Vegemite. Can't leave that out.

News companies tend not to fact check if it comes from another news source. So one slip and everybody looks stupid.

I was actually impressed when I looked up your unemployment rates versus the other countries in the anglosphere. You're in the mid 5's, New Zealand mid 6's, Canada is in the high 6's, US low 7's and UK high 7's.

Not happy about that. Australia has a better employment rate than Canada, and better beaches! Sheesh.

Funny! lol

And Australia apparently knows little about the US too... Especially if they are watching US news organizations.

In all honesty when the us economy is in the Trapp, the food and gas prices are headed upward not to many people pay attention to the land down under. I know they have gun and knife bans, as well as a Mega drought. That's it.
