It's generally easier to store carbohydrates than it is to store protein and fats, which bugs are mainly made of. If you toss some bugs into a mess of boiled greens, root veggies and maybe a few noodles, you'd have a nutritious meal.
When I was in survival school, the instructor said that if you couldn't stomach eating maggots, worms, etc., prepare them while there's light, and wait until after dark and eat them. The trick is that if you can't see them, your brain won't trigger the gag reflex.
