You are 100% correct.

The issues that we are facing are many.

1. The media in NZ is completely against firearms and firearm ownership. They are spreading a message that only military style semi automatic firearms have been prohibited. This is not true. Any firearm (at this stage pistols are excluded) that has a magazine holding more than 10 rounds is prohibited, and shotguns with more than 5 rounds fixed magazines or any shotgun with a detachable box magazine is prohibited. Lever-action and pump-action rifles with tubular mags with a capacity of more than 10 rounds are prohibited - even if they are rimfires. Think gallery guns... Gone.

2 Firearms are now referred to as weapons in the media, rather than tools. (except by the police, who suddenly referred to them as firearms when 11 were stolen from an unattended police station, including firearms that were in "safe-keeping" as evidence and some handed in under the firearms amnesty).

3 We are a small, island nation. We can't run anywhere if the SHTF. We are a smaller population than New York City. It would be very difficult to hide out, if we were wanted by the authorities.

4 We are law abiding citizens by definition. In order to get a firearms licence, you are assessed to be a 'fit and proper person'. To not comply with the government's rules would be against our nature. In contrast, there are politicians that voted for this legislative travesty, who have criminal records that would make it difficult to get a firearms licence.

This does not mean we are happy. We are ****ed off, to state it mildly, but lashing out would have significant consequences for anyone that does. The same goes for not complying.

The way that we are portrayed in the media is always negative, and we have no means of setting the record straight.

The media depicts us as a bunch of thugs, who have no value for life, uncompromising and completely unreasonable. The average person believes we should hand over our guns for lower prices than we paid for them, and they believe that would be a perfectly reasonable thing to do. They don't get that these firearms were acquired in complete compliance with the law. They are being removed from our possession with compensation under threat, not 'bought back'.

5 The government never owned our firearms to begin with, so even the terminology is a lie, to emphasise the reasonableness of the government.

Lastly, please remember that NZ is a bit of a social experiment where things are tested before global roll-out. Think EFTPOS, or paying at point of sale with cards rather than cash... Fight this with everything you have and don't let it go this far.

I just watched a news segment saying people were not turning in their firearms. It went on to say the government was having a really difficult time with this because none of them are registered in a national data base. Other people refusing to turn them in were stating they are not being properly compensated for the firearms. It had a small link about ol' jacinda the magic commie fuming about this. In the end I think they are going to get your guns but it's nice seeing some good folks resisting this even to a small extent.

and... ref the above

"Firearms are now referred to as weapons in the media, rather than tools. (except by the police, who suddenly referred to them as firearms when 11 were stolen from an unattended police station, including firearms that were in "safe-keeping" as evidence and some handed in under the firearms amnesty)."

The word is now out that NZ police paid NZ taxpayers' money to buy back the firearms stolen from the police station, a theft facilitated by their carelessness. But of course, no media or politicians are calling this fencing stolen goods - even though it is.

One would hope anyway! Seems a creeping type of apathy towards unrestricted ownership is coming over many "free" countries.

Precisely what we said in Oz in 1996. Murder rate has not changed, only the methods.
