Suspect still at large. Early reports of 50 injured at high school, other reports just say "more than 20" which is the trigger for the "mass casualty" definition.

"Margate Fire Department told CBS Miami there are between 20 and 50 victims. The extent of the injuries was unclear."

Incident began sometime before 3pm eastern. SWAT and FBI on scene for active shooter as of 3:50pm.

Private schools also cater to a different socio-economic demographic, where fractured families and poverty are not usually factors. That said, no one is immune from mental illness, irrespective of ethnic, financial, etc. backgrounds. The Newtown shooter had divorced parents who were fairly affluent. His was a case of missed red flags by everyone associated with him, similar to the recent Florida shooter.

The leather belt......

-Needs no dr. prescription
-never needs a refill
-can be tactically applied
-after 1 use, the sound of the snap is enough to get good results
-maybe applied or snapped as often as needed
-helps both parent and child get along

cures.....
-nastiness
-rudeness
-laziness
-back talking
-fighting
-drugs
-alcohol
-shop lifting
-tardiness
-sluttiness
-poor attitudes
-not going to bed
-not getting up on time
-poor fashion choices
-nose rings
-helps boys to grow up to be men and girls to grow up to be ladies
-helps takeing the smelly garbage out
-if a child wants a tattoo, you can apply some color on his or her behind to try it out!
-not only does it keep yer pants up, but there is no need to repeat yourself
-it actually helps children hear better!!!
-helps clean the yard too! why hire a gardener when you can just buy a leather belt!!

with so many cures, its a wonder why the leather belt isn't still being prescribed and applied!!!

They blame the guns, but it's the culture (stupid). Someone pointed to the fact that private scoops don't have this problem. Ran one for 15 years. It's true. In our Christian school we worked very hard with parents to address the heart issues of problem kids. When parents and/or the kids were unresponsive, we cut them loose.

Compulsory attendance, among other things, needs to be reviewed. Unfortunately, secular society doesn't have a clue. Evil can not be fixed with the godless, political correctness of the NEA. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

A full-on, no-strings-attached voucher system that doesnt discriminate against religious schools, would be a HUGE step. Allow all schools complete freedom to admit or deny enrollments and let the chips fall. Effective parents would choose effective schools who would welcome them. Foolish parents would have to settle for messed up schools unless and until those parents wised-up. The church would help as best she could, and law enforcement would deal with those who fell through the cracks.

Not perfect, but far, FAR better than the current paradigm that is unbelievably bad and spinning ever closer towards chaos and anarchy by the day. Dis-establish the NEA's false monopoly; dismantle socialist government education NOW, before it dismantles what is left of America.

The answer isn't 'the leather belt', or taking kids' ipads away from them.

The answer is cultural. Korean, Japanese and urban Chinese children are notoriously spoiled, but have the highest university attendance and lowest rates of violence, both in their home nations and abroad.

The answer is cultural, racial and national.

North America is multicultural, multiracial and increasingly multinational. We have no glue binding our communities together, and we've murdered our own traditions and cultural memories.

There's nothing binding us to our past and the future is some vague, global cess pit were nobody's last name matters any more.

Since the 60s, no adult has behaved as one, parents are now just as infantile, greedy and selfish as their children.
Our politics, our schooling, our destroyed families, have all become examples of a vast and humiliating madness.

There's no fix to school shootings, and what we've become. It's going to get worse.

Well cultural and genetic. Among the major three groups (black/white/asian), asian men have the lowest level of testosterone and the certain Asian populations also have a slightly higher iq (as compared to Caucasians). Both of which are predictors for crime and aberrant behavior.

And of course a ****-genius culture also plays a huge part. If everyone is basically "kin" then typically everyone shares the same standards of behavior, everyone pretty much agrees what "normal" vs. abnormal behavior is, and they are a heck of a lot more willing and able to criticize/correct each other, and other people's children, instead of trying to ignore/tolerate it because everyone is different and we can't judge the "other".

Course it works both ways, if everyone around you is "kin" and believes in witchcraft and that raping virgins cures aids, well then that is accepted as normal too.

Damn fine Facebook rant by the 2017-2018 Florida Teacher of the Year, Kelly Guthrie Raley, a day after the Florida school mass murder:
Okay, I’ll be the bad guy and say what no one else is brave enough to say, but wants to say. I’ll take all the criticism and attacks from everyone because you know what? I’m a TEACHER. I live this life daily. And I wouldn’t do anything else! But I also know daily I could end up in an active shooter situation.

Until we, as a country, are willing to get serious and talk about mental health issues, lack of available care for the mental health issues, lack of discipline in the home, horrendous lack of parental support when the schools are trying to control horrible behavior at school (oh no! Not MY KID. What did YOU do to cause my kid to react that way?), lack of moral values, and yes, I’ll say it-violent video games that take away all sensitivity to ANY compassion for others’ lives, as well as reality TV that makes it commonplace for people to constantly scream up in each others’ faces and not value any other person but themselves, we will have a gun problem in school. Our kids don’t understand the permanency of death anymore!!!

[Rest of rant: HERE]

Good for her, speaking common sense that needed spoken.

So much for the "give up the guns, we will protect you" theme, huh?

Who says that?

Name, quotes, and sources right now.

I don't know of a single cop who believes that. Enlighten me.

The track record of stopping crimes by citizens is probably way ahead of any agency.
We stop crimes in progress. We investigate crimes that citizens report. We track down criminals and capture them. We intervene in disturbances before they become crimes.

We aren't omnipresent, omniscient, or omnipotent.

We do what we can, with the equipment and time that we have, being underpaid and overstaffed and constantly berated for the actions or inactions of a few.

And if we disappeared today, your life would become hellish. Be careful what you ask for.

It was policy ....

https://theconservativetreehouse.co...-did-not-miss-warning-signs-or-make-mistakes/

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) didn’t “miss warning signs” or make “mistakes” in not writing up reports. The Sheriff’s office did exactly what their internal policies, procedures and official training required them to do, they intentionally ignored the signs, and intentionally didn’t generate documents.
It is important to understand the policy here. Broward County law enforcement (Sheriff Israel), in conjunction with Broward County School Officials (Superintendent Runcie and School Board), have a standing policy to ignore any criminal engagement with High School students.

I too know of cops who think the people should be disarmed and I also know many who don't think that. I also know many cops whose annual or semi-annual qualifications (depending on the dept.) are the only time they fire their weapons. I'm glad I train more often than that.

Wait - Nikolas Cruz was wearing full metal garb - body armor and helmet? Where did he get those? And how long would it take to put those on? And why wasn't this equipment mentioned? And if he was indeed wearing all that how was he ID'd by the young blonde woman in the second video?
She IDs him in the second video? I didn't catch that.

But early on a student said he ran into Cruz in the stairwell (or hallway) and Cruz was loading his rifle, he told the student something like "Leave, this is going to get messy". The student didn't say he knew Cruz or recognized him, but he presumably did get a good look at his face and heard him speak.

If Cruz did bring body armor I guess he could have put it on after he loaded the rifle, but then leaving the rifle behind while planning to escape seems odd.

The Broward County School Board & District Superintendent entered into a political agreement with Broward County Law enforcement officials to stop arresting students for crimes...

...why?

School officials wanted to “improve their statistics” and gain state and federal grant money for improvements.

You can also thank Team Obama, HIS DoJ and HIS DoE for this. Amazing how a federal guideline cautioning against charging too many minorities with a disproportionate share of unacceptable behavior will result in bad endings. Things that introduced me to a paddle when I was in grade school many years ago will result in a teacher being brought up on charges today.

Thanks to those who believe in progressivism.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/02/broward-county-sheriff-scott-israel-should-resign/

As for the sheriff, he is a pretty typical politician, hiring friends and political allies, treating his law-enforcement position as a nakedly political fief. His arrogance is astounding: When asked about his penchant for hiring his supporters and looking after his own interests first, the sheriff replied, “Lions don’t care about the opinions of sheep.” But the people of Broward County didn’t hire Scott Israel to be a lion; they hired him to be a sheepdog, a task at which he has failed so completely as to make regaining the public trust impossible. Indeed, it is not clear he ever deserved that trust to begin with. If he has any respect for his oath, his badge, or his community, he should step aside. If his sense of duty does not prevail, he should be forced out.

Saw/heard about this quote today, "The Lions don't concern themselves with the opinions of the sheep" or words to that effect and I was flatly stunned.

Looks like a lot of calls for his suspension and likely termination/resignation. This guy is inept, and a terrible leader, and his office really dropped the ball in several criminally negligent ways IMO. Add to that the dude has zero self reflection nor takes responsibility. Couple that with his very public blame-shifting to guns and calls for violating our gun rights (ironic, they can't protect citizens but instead wish to disarm them), and he's a head-case unfit to wear a public servant uniform of a law enforcement officer!

Uhhhh...the lions EAT the sheep in that scenario. Maybe it was a Freudian slip?
