Default Hunting rifle apparently used in Washington mall shooting

Washington State mall shooting, in the article it is said the rifle is apparently a hunting rifle. Witnesses report hearing up to 12 shots. All 5 people shot died.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/23/us/washington-mall-shooting/index.html

There is no known terrorism Nexus at this time. But it's still early in the investigation. In my opinion it does fit with the Lone Wolf attacks my soul has been prompting but we will have to wait and see.

I wonder how the type of firearm used will affect the gun control debate. Doesn't appear to be semi-auto, or have a detachable " high capacity" magazine. I'm just taking a guess here but there is a chance it was bigger than a 556.

If it were not a tight election, the media would frame it as a "scoped sniper rifle."

The Bloombergs, Shumers, etc. will frame this latest incident as proof that ALL firearms must be outlawed. Anti-2A fanatics are committed to disarming the populace completely.

Looks like some type of semi auto 22 rf. rifle to me,if you look close it short and compact like a Marlin Mod. 60 or Ruger 10/22. From the number of shots fired in succession that would make sense.

Except for the criminals element that is. You have to have some type of mental disorder to actually believe Gun Free Zone's actually prevents someone with the intent to harm others from going in with a gun. How is all those so called common sense gun control laws working out for you in all those major Democrat controlled cities. Any individual or organization that believes taking away my 2nd. Amendment rights is a good thing or a necessary evil just tells me they will eventually want all the rest of my rights as well.

I think the media is calling the gun a hunting rifle just because it has a wood stock.

Article makes it sound like 5 people were shot and all 5 died. Not sure I'd agree with a .22 if that's actually the case. Maybe an M1 carbine or something.

Looks like a Ruger 10/22 with a .308 conversion barrel.

Sorry. It's probably too soon.

One witness described the sound of gunfire as a loud clap. Marlin Model 60? It looks like it has a sling to me.

I'm surprised they didn't call him a "white" Hispanic

The guy that said he looked "Hispanic" will now be accused of profiling

Soon the gunman will be labeled a right wing extremist

Am I being negative or cynical? I don't know which anymore.....

Yeah it has a sling. I wish my Model 60 had a sling. When I saw the picture SKS came to mind first. But looking closer it almost looks like a 10/22 mag in there doesn't it? Obviously the camera quality is atrocious as cameras set up in businesses are not designed for anything but disproving frivolous slip and fall lawsuits.

The media will call him a white Hispanic and that will make it very PC. However, I bet, secretly they wish he was a white middle-eastern christian.

5 for 5 kill rate with a .22 is not likely. From the photo in that link it is impossible for ANYONE to determine what firearm he is holding, he could be holding a stick from that photo.

What gun holds 5 rounds? I agree it looks so blurry, there is no way to tell from pic.

Its impossible to say for sure. However, judging by his body language, it looks lightweight and he doesn't anticipate a lot recoil from it.

Not likely I agree....but definitely not impossible. Many a deer have been killed with one shot from a 22 to feed hungry families...
Agree that nobody can tell what it is...we will find out from the spent brass assuming they tell us the truth

People use to kill each other with thrown rocks as well, doesn't mean it's likely that 5 of 5 people hit with rocks would die.
