I thought some of you might be interested - Linda Moulton Howe covered this topic last week on her Earthfiles podcast.

There isn't any phone (that I'm aware of) with sufficiently sensitive microphone for such purpose.

The noise in the background sounds like abnormal vocalization from an animal that is either injured, sick, or possibly rabid.

An animal with rabies produces distinctly strange vocalizations that are not normal.

It was steadily moving closer which indicates that it was not incapacitated. My vote leans towards this sound being made by either a rabid cougar or bear.

That sounds scarier than even a big foot...

At first it sounded like distant wind, then soon I realized THAT was the sound the OP was referring to...not the noisy kid we could hear in the foreground (which I think the animal also eventually heard). The kid may also have had a tantrum or something before the recording, that drew the animal towards them... Who knows?

I listened to this again a few more times, but with headphones on. Now, I am convinced is not feline.

Whatever it was...it was not moving slowly. If this recording is not a hoax, I am thinking this is a bear or possibly a large canine. Rabies, most definitely.

I stumbled across this very same recording which was also published and commented on by The Guardian, and it was interesting that the people commented that they could also hear "something heavy" moving. If that was true, then I would lean more towards guessing it was a bear.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-shrieks-video

What I found odd: the goofy grandparents didn't do more to silence the kid who was getting increasingly vocal (other than one "shh, be quiet.") The animal certainly heard the kid's shrill whining which could easily draw a predatory response. And, most importantly, why were they not getting the hell out of there, knowing the thing was "something heavy" and moving quickly in their direction??

Which led to my third guess that maybe there is a possibility they were concocting a Bigfoot hoax?
