Question Popups

Advertise Here

Hey fellas. I am having problems with a persistent popup video whenever I go into threads, every time. It is slowing down the browser to a crawl and I can only see a few lines in a post. Do I have a setting wrong? I am using Chrome on Linux Mint, all the settings are set to kill popups. and this is the only site I am having issues with.

Am I doing something wrong?

Adblock isn't stopping this one. It doesn't happen every time, but I would say every other time and it just started yesterday. Annoying AF.

Yes it is very annoying. Now sure if the site got infected my malware or not. Usually shows up in the left center of the screen. Chrome has pretty good popup blockers, but it is not working on this one.

And...there it is, between the large version in the middle of this thread and the smaller version in the lower R hand corner - it's blotting out a full 1/3 to 1/2 of my screen.

That is the one or two in this case! Always with gun stuff (not that I hate guns or anything) but friggin annoying. The one in the middle is on a lot of sites which is why I do not go to those sites anymore.

Banner ads do not bother me. They are at the top and there have been several times where I followed them and learned something new or even bought something. But these new ones are a deal breaker for me.

I run Chrome and Windows 7. Adblock plus. I turned Ghostery off a week ago because Youtube would not play with it on.

No ads yet.

I also have Norton Antivirus, so maybe that is stopping it.

Talking

To update. I just downloaded Adblock plus into Chrome. Easy and painless and it is supposed to work on most other browsers.

The site admins may still want to look at this issue. If someone slipped in some malicious code easily, then security needs to be addressed quickly before a virus is inserted.

I wont put a direct link for adblock, but you only need to goggle it. Your browser should take care of the install.

I'm getting the pop up and adblock refuses to load and run on my set up for some reason.
The ads just started this week and on this site only.

Now a "ghost image" of a portion of the ad remains even when I close it.

To site admins, this is the bulk of the source code causing the problem and I would also like to point out one major area of concern in the code: data-friendly="false" Is mentioned several times. What does that mean?

To those who are looking to remove it to have a better site experience, no ghosts etc... right click the video box, go to source or properties and start deleting. Then x out of the editor when it is gone.

Sounds like your machine is infected with malware.
I would download "malwarebytes" and scan/clean out the crap.

Also I would download and run Ccleaner and run that.

Good luck.

I've been getting the pop-up gun ad on this site for the past 2-3 days. It happens when I'm using my laptop but not when I'm using my phone - maybe because I use the desktop app on laptop and the mobile app on phone?? IDK.

It is always in the lower-right corner of the window. It IS annoying, but I have found I can get rid of it by clicking on it and then going back to it and closing it by clicking on the "X" in the upper-right corner of the pop-up window.

You still have the ghost mute button middle to lower left?

Right click the video and go into properties and just keep left clicking the video box and deleting in the editor till it's gone.

Same thing here. Odd that some are experiencing this and not others. I have run malware, and not the problem. It seems this is a forum monetary program they added...

I did some more research and the video comes from a source that touts "3500+ websites" are enrolled in the video advertising program.

Same thing with script blocker for chrome. The nice thing about script blocker is it has a toggle switch so when I want the scripts to work on Ebay for example, just tap the pause ll button, and when I'm back here, tap the ll button again.

The irony here is the desire to drive more revenue has reached a level that lead the masses to download products that removes all the ads... I didn't mind the banner ads either.

But the pages load a lot faster especially when I need to tether to my hotspot.
