As much as I like the quote: "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." It does not appear in any of Jefferson's writings. Sad, but true.

https://www.monticello.org/site/rese...-arms-spurious

The quote, however, can be attributed to:

Charley Reese, "Founding Fathers Gave Individuals the Right to Bear Arms," Orlando Sentinel, June 22, 1989. This quotation appeared in a number of publications in quick succession in the mid-1990s, including in The Militia Movement in the United States: Hearing Before the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology, and Government Information of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, One Hundred Fourth Congress, first session ... June 15, 1995 (Washington, D.C.: GPO, 1997), 120.

The following is a corrected list of Jefferson's quotes. Still plenty here that rings of truth. As a side note, while Jefferson was a very intelligent man and an astute politician, we was terrible at managing his own personal finances and he was even more terrible respecting theology. That said, he was a tremendous blessing to this nation's early years and for posterity.

"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe ." -- Thomas Jefferson

"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." -- Thomas Jefferson

"It is incumbent on every generation to pay its 'own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on, would save one-half the wars of the world." -- Thomas Jefferson

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them." -- Thomas Jefferson

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." -- Thomas Jefferson

“To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical. ” – Thomas Jefferson

It's interesting that Jefferson is admired by Democrats and Republicans alike.

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined.... The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun."

"Any chance you have the attributions for those quotes. That would be helpful. Thanks!"

No, I borrowed them from a friend. I think most, if not all, are accurate but I haven't researched it so if any of them are not accurate or verbatim, it wasn't intended. I don't have the time to research some of what I post, it takes a bit of time to do that. I only research that which I write personally in my articles.

I write articles every day for a few places I am contracted with, I'm writing another book, it will be number six and I am helping a friend write her book. Time is a scarce commodity for me.

This is a good place to start.

Question Is this a "nothingburger"?

Not sure quite what this implies but the authorization for deployment of US Marine units in CONUS "in support of civil authorities" is troublesome.

That is changing along with everything else. His home city of Charlottesville VA voted this year to no longer celebrate his birthday.
It always amazes me that Leftists are unable to see things in historical context. They imagine that they are such enlightened souls that had they lived in those times they would have led the charge to free the slaves. The reality is that had they been born into those times they most likely would have accepted it the same way most people of the day did.

Oathkeepers.org

Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders, who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath, mandated by Article VI of the Constitution itself, is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and Oath Keepers declare that they will not obey unconstitutional orders, such as orders to disarm the American people, to conduct warrantless searches, or to detain Americans as “enemy combatants” in violation of their ancient right to jury trial. See the Oath Keepers Declaration of Orders We Will Not Obey for details.

Oath Keepers reaches out to both current serving and veterans to remind them of their oaths, to teach them more about the Constitution they swore to defend, and to inspire them to defend it. See below for details on how we do that. Oath Keepers also includes a membership program designated as “Associate Members”, which consists of patriotic citizens who have not served in uniform but who serve now by supporting this mission with their Associate Membership and volunteer activities. Oath Keepers welcomes our Associate Members and appreciates their support of our mission.

Our motto is “Not on our watch!“

The Oath Keepers have been working for years creating movies to inform and inspire Constitutional conservatives. They have completed three listed below. They are working on a fourth, UNSUSTAINABLE, The UN's Agenda for World Domination, and need help funding it. Please go to https://oathkeepers.org/donate/ if you can help.

Heck fire yeah, I am an Appalachian American. Heck I’m mostly hillbilly, I live in the country, just south of the family Land Grant property. My wife’s family is from Upstate SC, mine is from Henderson County, NC. Solomon Jones is a legend in our family.

When you want to know what politicians are saying, reflect on these words:

Fascism is possible. The rounding up of a country’s citizens and putting them in prison or to death is possible. Depriving a certain segment of the citizenry becomes necessary regardless of the overall consequences, as long as the rest of us are protected from “Them”. The reason we know this is, it was done in our recent memory. It happened in Europe during the 30s and 40s and it happened in America during the 1800s. History can and will be repeated if unchallenged by the masses. The politicians are doing this and you have to know they are borrowing from what worked on a population in the past and are hoping it's going to work on us.

If you listen to what Democrats are saying to us publicly right now, you will understand they are borrowing from history, and they are doing what Adolph Hitler said to do in his book, Mein Kampf, written while he was in prison during the early 30s. To repeat small slogans, and continue to repeat them over and over again. This is a tactic to divide the public into “Us and Them.” Friends and Enemies. Politics is not about a reasoned dialogue; it is about creating and engendering “Friends and Enemies” to further promulgate a division of the general public. If you listen to what the politicians say, it is devised to sway your opinion on basic cultural trends. You’ll be either for or against a popular movement that is happening around you. If they can sway you, then, other ruses will be used to sway you even more in believing what they want you to believe.

This flies in the face of what was put into place centuries ago when the people were tired of being abused by their kings and noblemen. When we go back to Anglo-Saxon Law which leads us to the Magna Carta, the reason we have law is the law comes before the king; in modern times, law comes before the ruler; law comes before any momentary urges the ruler might have in modern times. Law always comes before the ruler, which means law comes before whatever momentary sayings that he is embodying. So, if we say whatever he thinks at this particular moment is what goes, what we are saying is goodbye to law, goodbye to predictability, we’re saying goodbye to the basis of the system that we have.

No. I don't understand why this fallacy is perpetuated. The modern left is COMMUNIST, not fascist. The comparisons to Hitler are completely missing the mark. If you want to learn the origins and methods being adopted by the modern leftist study the Bolsheviks, not the Nazis.

Deadmeat99,

Hitler hated the Bolsheviks and the Communists because they were mostly Zionist Jews. At least most of the key communist party members were. They simply renounced their religion and adopted atheism. Hitler hated the Jews because he blamed them for the defeat of Germany in World War One. Nazi means, National Socialists. He did not adopt the Fascist movement like the Italians did. He developed his own system. However, regardless of where their propaganda stemmed from, (Dr. Goebbels) the modern politician is adopting the tactics of the Nazi Party because what they came up with worked for them, and they were able to take over an entire country with it. Hitler also broke the Unions because they were predominately Communist too. None of this is a fallacy, it is true. Sure, the Democrats are closet Communist but the tactics being used on the voters today are right out of the National Socialist's play book. Get a copy of Mein Kampf and read it if you doubt me rather than try to refute what I have written. There are copies in English. I haven't read it in many years but I did many years ago as a college student. It is a tough read because he goes off on tangents, but he does tell you what he believes in and it isn't communism. That didn't stop him and his main characters from telling lies to the public and repeating those lies often.

Also, Antifa call themselves antifascists but their tactics are exactly like the Brown Shirts Hitler used on the public to stifle any public criticism at his speeches in the beer gardens. If you tried to shout Hitler down or do anything to disturb the speeches, his Brown Shirts would beat you to a pulp. That is also being borrowed and emulated from the Nazi's. It is also unnecessary to split hairs during a dialogue on a particular subject. The left is adopting from many avenues, and they never stop. When they get caught in a lie they shift gears and go on to another one. For simple clarification I pointed out the Nazi's specifically, and most of us understand that many of the tactics come from different directions. People who write articles try to narrow a point down to a small area for the purpose of expediting the dialogue.

“To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?” ― Marcus Tullius Cicero
