Which I wonder about...does this mean my home cleaning potentially MISSED a lot of spots? Nonetheless, I'm going to order a black light just to be sure.

Try this test with your black light:

Take it into your next hotel room and shine it on the bed, the floor, the walls. Take it into any public restroom and shine it on the floor, the walls and around the toilets and urinals.

If you don't lose your lunch, you have a stronger stomach than I do.

This is the one I have to find pet "accidents".

Home cleaning does nothing to protect you from viruses. You don't need to protect yourself from your own germs. If you or your family are shedding them inside the home you already have them and thus are already sick or already immune. You need to clean things from outside that are entering your home so that other people don't bring/send their viruses into your home. Viruses don't spontaneously generate from dust.

I use a black light in hotel rooms, a well. We also use it at home when our cats have an accident.

There is a very memorable scene in the TV series Monk where they shine a black light around a hotel room looking for clues. The entire room top-to-bottom looks like it was splattered with biological fluids. Germaphobe Monk nearly loses his lunch.

You should refuse any hotel room that looks like it was not cleaned properly.

We sometimes use these “black light” exercises in HazMat to demonstrate how contaminants can migrate after inadequate or no decontamination. It a fun exercise, but it doesn’t necessarily reflect reality. It’s just the sort of thing that can be misused by the media to drive their sensationalized narratives that everyone is going to get sick and die.

If you use a blacklight to find areas in your house that need cleaning, you will never ever finish cleaning. Trust me!

I hope everyone realizes that the reason something is showing up under the blacklight in the article is that they used a UV fluorescent powder to SIMULATE the virus... blacklights will not "reveal" viral infection of surfaces.

I recall black lights used in topless entertainment places. The down side was it showed up capped teeth and plastic surgery (boob jobs...) scars like a neon sign.

Yeah. Applied heavy enough to make their experiment work as intended.

My five function flashlight has a black light mode, very handy but I really doubt that it will show C-19 virus. Otherwise they would be using it everywhere to test.
