Default VA ordered to pay non-VA hospital ER costs

A military veteran member here, I cannot recall who, was hammered with medical bills at a non-VA hospital. You might get some relief. See the following court order news release.

The VA has been ordered to pay medical costs at non-VA hospitals.

I also remember that thread but don't recall who it was.

Maybe nomad, 2nd?

This is definitely a huge development.

This is good news. My wife just had a minor motorcycle accident (4 stitches, sprained wrist & a bit of road rash) & we went to local ER rather than drive the hour & 1/2 to Nashville. Haven't even gotten the bill yet but, we'll see if we can get re-embursed when we do. We'll just pay out of pocket if not. It's what we were expecting when we chose local.

I have never used VA. I guess it's time to sign up.

I wonder if this is retroactive.

I had an ER visit about ten years ago and had to pay it

It's literally FREE health care & it prevented the fine/punishment that Obamacare levied against those who were too poor to buy Health insurance. Sure President Trump wiped out the fine but, the next POTUS could be a back stabbing Globalist & bring it back.

Plenty of flaws to it but, I'd be missing a leg today if I didn't have it so I don't complain as much as others.

It's not free. It's paid for by veterans' sacrifices.

But the healthcare I've received from the VA has been phenomenal. I'd be dead or bankrupted without it.

This bill has been in effect since 2014 under Obama. It was extended and improved in 2018 by Trump. Not sure if it’s retroactive though.

I read it was retroactive to 2016, and the VA will contact YOU if you qualify. I can't cite the article I read it and I hope I am wrong.

If the article is right my dad's leg amputation in 2009 won't count. But possibly his blood yeast infection in 2016 will.

Still trying to get his VA benefits for the leg amputation which was a result of diabetic foot ulcers. They've given him 20% for Agent Orange diabetes but won't connect the amputation as a secondary, or his neuropathy in both hands and remaining leg condition, which is poor. So frustrating!

Now, if only they will change the rules to allow Veterans legal representation, and to pursue malpractice claims in regular courts!!!!!! That is the only way the VA will ever clean up its act!!
