Absolutely support this. So many reasons.

- good fun, gets rid of preppers boredom.
- as others have said " if you're prepared for zombies you are prepared for anything"
- gets younger folks interested in the prepping/survivalist lifestyle.
- off chance some virus causes a real zombie apocalypse(rage virus type is plausible )

At the very least the discussions would be a good read

Zombies are just plain fun and very american. The idea of survival where everyone has a common enemy that you shoot on sight fits the Western style.

Why do you think its so big in pop culture?

I would support such a thing.

My group and I use things like zombie and apocalypse movies as "thought exercises" on what not to do, how we do it different, and how the preps we have done would make it different if we were in the movie.

I love zombie flicks and such.

Sure...as long as we all know flesh eating reanimated corpses can not happen (barring some alien DNA or something) and if that happens, we'll have bigger problems, lol.

Zombies are fun to think about. The hubby and I love zombie movies and The Walking Dead. I say go for it.

I want to echo the reasoning that it gets younger people into the preparedness mindset.

Its actually how I started out, getting this or that just in case!
It acts like an avalanche, once you start you can't stop!

i tend to be pragmatic to a fault I can be lots of fun

especially when doing things outdoors
I like to throw parties (not the drunk wild kind more like bbq competitions cooking parties or just friendly get togethers)

and I like making things plenty of fun I just dont like sifting through a tonn of garbage to try to find useful information

example if im in the recipe section looking for recipes for say dove
I dont want to have to sift through how zombie brains are actually good for you

i find the zombie craze to be highly annoying you have good brands debasing themselves with fad marketing such as eo tech
if a companies product is so good why need fad markets like a biohazard reticle?

also talking about things that are unrealistic like its a reall possibility only serves to discredit those on the board by making us all look crazy hell half the chest thumpers here look crazy and hanging on to sanity by only a thread

I see posts all the time how to get X family member on board
or how to talk to people about prepping

you start by kicking ^^^^^^^that **** to the curb and present a rational and sound reason for doing something not zombie apocalypse not the sky is falling but nuts and bolts reasons that people can get behind

saving money
better quality of food for less
being self sufficient is nice because you can take your wife and gf out more with money you save
environmentally friendly

stuff like that makes you seem more educated and less crazy compared to shooting looters and assuming the golden horde is showing up at your doorstep

preppers/survivalists have the same issue the klan does they pander to the stereotype society has of them

the KKK would do great if they were more selective in there membership and took it to a more buisness angle of supporting white buisness vs running there mouth about crazy stuff

just like people would take preppers more seriously if instead of asshats on doomsday preppers and talking about the end of the world they just focused on the benifits of sustainability and how that protects you from market fluxuations and the environmentally friendlyness of it all

but then unlike 90% of the people here I dont log on for some mental catharsis i log on to learn
not to sift through endless fantasy football scenarios where the op is rambo one man against the world crap

id rather study timber framing techniques, better construction methods and designs of small chicken coops and why, pasive live stock watering systems
cooking, hunting, how to deal with female issues that will arise from change in conditions that have to be dealt with ect...

things like that not zombies, god hates/loves you, solar flares end of the world or any of that crap because its not relavent in any way that is preferable for

could china invade red dawn style? sure but thats not somthing i can controll same with coronas if the earth gets cooked it gets cooked dont worry because you will be cooked too

As much as I despise pop culture crap, I almost support this idea if it would help keep the zombie crap out of the rest of the forums. But knowing people, it wouldn't.

I think it's a great idea. I love the genre and think t would be entertaining. After all, the conspiracy theories and religious zealots get old after a while. And if i am not mistaken, the Walking Dead thread has a pretty good following already.

We had a 2012 section. Why is a zombie section any worse? Go for it.
