Look gang, I know that the topics we discuss here can inspire strong emotions. But you have got to get a grip on the language. Kev is very specific about this being a family oriented site and about language. Especially bypassing the language filter.

I spend entirely too much time here editing posts for unsuitable language. I leave a comment at the bottom warning to not bypass the filter. But so far that has done nothing.

So I'm instituting a new personal policy. If I have to edit your post for language, you will receive a warning. After that, every instance will receive an infraction. So if you've done this a few times, you might want to go back and edit your posts. Because if I have to edit several of your posts, you may end up with enough infractions to get a restricted access or a time-out.

I don't like giving you folks a hard time, and you don't like it either. Following the rules is a win/win for both of us. So please take a moment to familiarize yourself with them here:

https://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=2

Especially these two parts:

Quote:
1. Foul and/or vulgar language should be avoided when possible. We understand discussions get heated sometimes and tempers flare but please remember we have members here of all kinds of religious faiths, ethnic backgrounds, and a lot of minors as well. This is a family friendly forum Keep your language family friendly.
The easiest way to keep out of trouble is to just type every word spelled correctly, the language filter will change most banned words to *******. If you type "S**T" then we consider that bypassing the filter, don't do it just type it the way it should be. Some words are not picked up by the filter and you may get a warning or infraction for using them so try to remember this is a family forum.
Quote:
22. Do not bypass the language filter. It's there for a reason. The forum has a language filter. Do not try to bypass it by typing in a symbol or changing the spelling of a cuss word. If you feel like cussing just type it like it should be spelled and the language filter will show it like this ******, anything else is considered bypassing the language filter and is against forum rules.

I was once told those who use cus words or foul language are those who do not comprehend the English language very well so they use cursing to get attention or there point across instead of correct terminology.

Nah,some were raised in an environment where it's common
and accepted. That's a problem I've tried to overcome all my life.
I'm usually good at it,but as Mike says, emotions can make me
revert. I know some highly educated folks who swear often.
They just don't do it at board meetings and during sales pitches
and in public venues or in front of most kids

Acceptance has a lot to do with location. Like labdog said, it wouldn't be acceptable during board meetings and such.

By the way, I created this thread over in Firearms General and was asked if it's ok to bypass the filter when it comes to things like D1cks Sporting Goods and such. I thought I'd post my answer here also.

I don't know if there's an official stance, so I can't speak for the other mods. But I will not ding anyone for that. That's the proper name of a legitimate store, and not a vulgar usage.

LOL!

That's ridiculous! Many of the most intelligent people I know are very vulgar when in the proper environment to be so. The reasoning behind this is that, in some cases, the 'swear' or 'cuss' word is, in fact, the best word to describe what they are saying.

I've heard another of those b.s. sayings, that those who are the most vulgar are also the most honest, now, this I know is false, because I've heard the little wannabe gang-bangers cuss up a storm, and then heard them lie in the same sentence.

It has always amazed me that the medical name for a sexual organ or act is acceptable but the street name is not.

But rules is rules!

So just to clarify, as long as we don't bypass the filter, we're good?

For example:
"Feinstein eats dog ****"

Would this be acceptable?

Well, the concept is good, but the delivery could use some work!

I have a question, too; I have seen, and used, the acronym SHTF. While I wouldn't say the S-word, I have written it that way, although most of the time I do write it as *HTF (I've even been called a hypocrite for writing it as such, btw). Is this considered by-passing the filter?

MikeK. A question for you.

How does this "filter" actually work? Is it some kind of automatic computer guru stuff, or do you or other mods "manually" go in and change a vulger word to something resembling this.....?

*****

I would make a terrible admin/ mod person. (Not enough computer skills for me)

BTW.... A big thanks to all the admin mod folks here. The way this site is ran = the one big reason why I like it, and post here often.

OOPS.

If this is the case, I would have been warned a long time ago, as I have used it quite often.
I have never received a warning, so it must be GTG.

Good question however.

Nope, only words that are filtered normally. Acronyms are not mentioned in the rules, only swear words. It is not a perfect system but, it is what we have. If you feel the need to spell "SHTF" as" *htf", that is fine as far as I am concerned. Because, the "S" stands for a whole word and you are essentially doing exactly what the filter would do if you spelled it out.

Before someone asks about other acronyms, You need to use some common sense here. If someone says 'FOAD' it will be dinged. While it does not violate the language rules per se', it IS seen as an attack on another and will be dealt with accordingly.

Old person question here...is it possible for someone to tell me what this means without actually saying anything bad? (grandmaoutoftheloop)

Look friends, it really is simple. If you must swear just type it out and let the filter work!

Don't get creative by deliberately misspelling cuss words, blocking out a letter or two, or even using foreign language swear words. All of the above are considered a deliberate bypass of the filter and a violation of the Terms of Service and will lead to trouble. Most of us swear at some point and I do too but, I try to remain civil and I suggest you all do the same.

No, that's fine. It's part of an acronym rather than a seperately identifiable word. Basically, just read Kev's rules. They cover everything we're discussing here.
