It would seem to me that it would be really good advice to stay out of any WallyWorld to avoid the COVID thing. Yet, I find myself reading post, after post, of other SB members making nearly daily comments about the current WallyWorld situation during their trips.
Bug In, or Bug Out could often become a heated thread in the past. Bug To WallWorld Daily during a Global Pandemic seems to be totally accepted on the forum at this point in time.
While I'm not a huge fan of wallyworld I don't see a problem with getting stuff when it is significantly cheaper than somewhere else. Before they "got woke" they were one of the best places to get ammo locally, not to mention targets & other shooting supplies. Guns were usually much cheaper there as well. If you think spending more for the same stuff somewhere not named walmart makes you somehow superior to preppers who don't feel that way, you'll be farther behind in your preps than them.
I certainly have things in storage that I got from Wally World, like Sawyer filters, 1lb propane tanks and stuff, but I would not classify myself as a Wally World prepper.
I get the best deal on certain things wherever I can. Other things I won't compromise on.
I order all my fish anti-biotics from them. I'm not too proud to shop there if they really had what I wanted. They almost never do and I just dislike the atmosphere enough that I don't generally even look unless I end up there for some other reason. At least here, even before they went anti-gun, they never had the best prices on guns or ammo....and usually pretty much no selection to boot.
I do a fair amount of online Walmart shopping. If the prices are better than the local stores I buy the limit and shipping is free for $35.00 purchase.
Their canned goods arrive in the proper size box and only occasionally one will be dented. Target sends in haphazard manner and most cans arrive dented so Walmart is my first choice.
I'm also not a fan of amazon but when I can get stuff shipped to my door, often for less than I can get it elsewhere including wally world, it's hard to say no. Even more so now with all the craziness.
I use the online WW for most staples. Lately have been having delivery problems (delays). Right now someone in my household goes to the grocery for us, but I plan to try the WW fresh food delivery in the next week or two to see how it goes. There are a couple of big Walmarts in my town, but you couldn't pay me to step foot in either of them.
A lot of Wally Markets are substituting name brand for store brand if out of stock for same price if doing pickup. I usually go every 4 days. Nothing has changed for me since the Markets first opened close by.
I noticed none of the Wally World employees were required to wear masks. They did keep everything wiped down. Then later started directing traffic in and out.
The employees didnt die off, and until the masks became mandatory statewide, I was good with everything. Now I try to make my visits short and during low volume hours.
I may hit the big Wally once a month as needed. But too much traffic there.
I've bought a lot of stuff from walmart in the last few months. All of it ordered from their website. I have nothing against the company itself, but the stores are just miserable places and I absolutely hate going to them. I've been in a walmart neighborhood market one time this year, in february. I can count the number of times I've been inside their store in the last decade on my fingers and might have one or two leftover.
But I fail to see how walmart is any different than any other large gathering of people as far as covid is concerned. Even smaller stores have enough people in them to have at least one contagious person. And I am constantly seeing news about people not following social distancing in stores. In fact locally, they have begun to gather enough data to get an idea where the infections are happening, and the largest percentage are happening from "shopping". They didn't say where, of course.
Probably 85% of my pantry is Great Value brand. Yes, I'm a Walmart Prepper. I also do the mail order from Walmart and Sams Club for thing I can wait on.
I can truly understand some people's dislike for WM. I'm the same towards Dollar Stores.
I got lucky at WM sporting goods Saturday morning at opening time. Cases of .22 rimfire, and Estate brand 00 buckshot. Coulda done without either, but picked up 2 bricks of .22 and 2-25 round boxes of buckshot. Winchester and Federal 12ga and 20ga slugs have been in stock regularly. Even had some Federal 7.62x51 ball ammo in 40 round boxes for $31.
Other than that, shopping at WM has been no worse than any other grocery or box stores. If I need it or want it, I'm going to go get it.
I very seldom browse when I shop. I have a list of what's needed. Get in, get out.
My town only has a Walmart and Albertsons so we do the majority of our food shopping from Walmart. Can drive 2 hours to the next biggest town and hit Costco that we do about once a month. We've had very good luck at our local Walmart with customer service overall and prices.
There are several WMs in our area. The one very close to me is and has been the best run WalMart that I know of. No place is perfect. I go often to check on .22lr, .22WMR and shotgun ammo. They have, by far, the best prices on those items.
One of LGSs has taken coming in a buying out all of the .22 lr and then reselling it at gun shows. (He will sell it in his store but not display it.) He gets it from Walmart cheaper than he can from his distributor, even with the sales tax.
Milk and eggs are consistently less expensive than Aldi, at least around here. Meat prices are crazy right now but used to be very good prior to Covid/riots.
Firearms prices, for the stores that sell them, are also better than online or LGSs, especially right now.
They sell the only blue jeans that fit me comfortably and for less than $25. Their TreadSafe shoes are excellent and are really non-slip. You have to try them on because they are not always consistent. They had two pair, same size, one pair fit, the other was too tight.
I’m a dedicated Walmart / Sam’s Club shopper. Lately, I’ve been buying FEDERAL 300 win mag, 150gr., at Walmart. I don’t want to go into my main stock, so when I’m in the store, I pick a few boxes to take to the range. The best price on AMMOSEEK is $21.85 +sh+t per 20 round box. Walmart price for the same....$17.85 +t.
Thanks for not shopping Walmart. It leaves better deals for the rest of us. :thumb:

One of the local Walmarts had the Federal DeerThug, in 6.5 Creedmoor, .300WSM and .300 WinMag on clearance for . . . $4.50 a box!!!
I got the Creedmoor, left the WinMag for someone who might have it. It was gone a few days later but I still got 6 boxes of the .300WSM. I have tried to sell it but, so far, no nibbles except for a guy who was all excited until I explained to him that it was not the same as WinMag.
If I don't sell it soon I will break it into components and use to load some .308.
I have been a couple times. Really didn't want to go either time, but unexpected needs come up. We have lots of stores in our area, but some things are only found there. I wear a mask whenever off property and use liberal amounts of hand sanitizer anytime I interface with anyone/thing.
I did order some stuff online from them and we order from Sam's. With the PLUS membership or whatever it is called, shipping is free.
I did see a 7mm rifle for $190 that I should have picked up, but I wanted to hang around as little as possible. Plus my gun budget got blown on a good deal previous to that.
Our choices are limited where I live. Walmart, Sam's, Aldi's and Brookshires. Wish we had a Kroger, HEB or something else to compete with Brookshires especially as their prices are rather high. Live to far out for delivery with Walmart but have done pick up at the store but on some items I want to get for myself. Few dollar stores but they are always nasty. Usually only go every two weeks or so to Walmart and about every six weeks to Aldi's and Sam's.
I live in a small town and am in Walmart a lot. I also work there, ;-) That said, for groceries its Walmart, Safeway, or an expensive local place. For a lot of other things its Walmart or drive an hour to the closest "city."
There have been Covid outbreaks at Walmarts. Walmart has also required employees to wear masks for months and recently imposed a mask requirement on customers regardless of what the current local/state is doing. Some Walmarts are having a hard time keeping staffed, however, so your local store may be under a lot of stress.
We shop at 4-5 places, each for specific item we have identified as best cost or best quality.
In no particular order:
Aldi, local super market chain, Wally, Target, Walgreens, etc...
I shop at Walmart all the time, but since the virus came on the scene I do all my Walmart shopping on line. I haven't set foot inside a Walmart since February.
There was a COVID-19 outbreak at our local Walmart a couple weeks ago, BTW.
We do not hesitate to use Walmart for some things..
Mostly consumables that are the best buy when compared to other shopping options..
We use the local newspaper and other adds to make this kind of decision.
We DO NOT use Walmart as a casual, daily, or quick stop shopping stop. We have other places that are a better "milk and bread" type quick stop.. We use all our shopping options pretty much the same way we use Walmart, depending on needs at the moment..
