My son and my future daughter in law (wedding May 30) was going to go to Mexico for their honeymoon. They changed it to Dominican Republic. Now it's been changed AGAIN!!! My son's company just made an announcement.... anybody that leaves the country has to take an additional 7 days off work. If you fly in a commercial plane, although within the USA, then you have to take additional 3 days off. I applaud this company for that decision.

NOW... they are going to Aspen, Colorado for their honeymoon. Her aunt/uncle owns a 2nd Vacation Home there, and is offering the vacation cabin home to them for their honeymoon.

SO..... WHAT SIGHTSEEING ATTRACTIONS ARE THERE??????? They will be in/near Aspen CO

There's plenty of beautiful scenery at Aspen and lots of stuff for them to do. Probably will still have some snow up there too. They've had some nice snowfall up in the higher elevations here. And they won't have to worry as much about the flu. So far Colorado has had NO cases of flu. It was a better choice than going out of the country at a time like this.

My son asked me to get on the internet and do the homework for him..... he's a cross country trucker..... so I'm deciding to cheat.... and ask all of YOU..... If I can get enough decent responses.... I will forward this link to him.

Where's Yellowstone? Where's Glacier Park? Where's this? Where's that? What do you suggest? These are 2 starry eyed kids with a car.... what are some ideas?????

IT'S THEIR HONEYMOON.... OFFER SOME IDEAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: They already gave up their dreamy Mexico resort and their dreamy Domincan Republic resort....

...there are many attractions in Colorado to see,the few that come to mind are Mesa Verde Nat'l Park(SW portion, next to Durango)...the Garden of the Gods....Cheyenne Mountain...USAF Academy in Colorado Springs.Yellowstone Nat'l Park is north in Wyoming, but worth the drive. It's also great to take the drive along the 'million dollar highway' for stunning views of the mountains...this is the route I always take leaving the Durango area traveling north(of course the view is fine traveling south also)...you should also google Red Rocks & other Colorado attractions.

This is why I say Las Vegas.
And it's a half a day drive from Colorado.
And easy to get back should SHTF with the virus.

The rates are real good now that the economy is way down.
Just don't stay at the Alladin--it's a march to the car.
And don't stay in any of the downtown hotels--it's creepy old now.

Rocky Mountain national Park is not terribly far away.
If he likes a drive(truckers love to drive on their holidays right?) have them hit the Four Corners and see Mesa Verde.
There are some Dino fossils out by Utah near Fruita and the Colorado Natl. Monument.
Pretty much anywhere they go from Aspen is going to be a drive.
What they see might depend on where they are coming from and if they are driving.
Aspen is pretty cool all by itself.

Well, at least they are not going to a potentially dangerous third world country. Aspen has its own dangers although avalanches should be over by the end of May but there are plenty of Hollyweirdos trolling around Aspen.

The aunt/uncle must be millionaires for I have heard that the average price of a home in Aspen is over one million. Even the mayor of Aspen could not afford to live there from what I heard once.

But it is beautiful. Here is one link out of many I could give > http://www.aspenchamber.org/what-to-do/recreation/

I would not travel too much outside of Aspen for much beauty to see just in that town. I would have recommended Estes Park for it is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park where people can see elk up close, and almost all other wildlife and big mountains.

Plenty of shopping around Aspen and sights but since they are on their honeymoon maybe they will have other things to do besides just sightsee? They should get a place with a picture window to look out of...
But here is one beautiful sight/site (the Maroon Bells) that any who go to Aspen must see >

Ohhhhhh, you make my guts hurt with this one.
The whole downtown experience has ruined Freemont street.
It's just a big mall with kitchy kiosks selling crap.
And the casinos are decrepit, old and dirty.
Including The Plaza... creepy and old and in desperate need of a makeover.

My favorite place was Binion's... but now it's just a big slot parlor.
It's glory days are gone.
This place used to be hip-happening.
It was the Mecca for craps--but now it's just sad, sad, sad!
As it The Plaza is way too sad.

Went to gunshow in Vega a few weeks ago, and drove downtown for a look.
It took me 20 minutes to hit the road.
My guts hurt.

HEY!

I've been to Vegas a twice in the last few months.

I never new about Freemont Street, and I REALLY ENJOYED the history of the place. The Neon Museum was something I want to go back and see every piece ( yea I went on the day after the only day in a gazzilion years McCarren shut down to snow ... got diverted to Phenoix for 20 hours).

You see the changes and reflect back.
I see what is new, and enjoy seeing the history.

The grass is always greener on the other side. I actually recommended to a co-worker that she NOT miss Freemont Street at night.

This is 6 hours away, and they may or may not be to young for this trip.

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad winds through spectacular & breathtaking canyons...

Might not have the same gratification of a video game... or newlywed intercourse ...

I was there the last day Freemont was open up to Main.
It was a madhouse, we didn't know, were not familiar with the area and there was serious confusion, bottle inspired, but confusion none the less.
I can't stay at the Golden Nugget anymore.
One of these days I'll tell you a story I know about the early ownership of the GN before the hotel was there.

Don't forget the bums..... they are the best part and c'mon man, you gotta love watching the tourists.
Well yeah, I see living there that would get old.

Barricks owns it now, Gaughan kinda let it slip but Barrick is working it over slowly.
I don't like what they have done and most of the old guard on the floor are gone now.

Benny WAS Binions and not just because he owned it.
His daughter is an idiot and did cheapen it up.
They are all hot with the poker thing now.
I'm not into it.
They I still shoot craps in there now and then.
We do the Steak House now since the Stage is gone.

Aww man........ the mystery meat at breakfast time at the Plaza buffet makes it all worth it.

I been meaning to ask you about the show at Cashman.....
Would it be worth it plan a trip on a Sunday morning to catch the show instead of mid week like I usually do ya think?
Or is it lame like the Costa Mesa and Ontario shows?

Ya know, I lived there a couple years and never managed to board that thing.
We drove to Silverton frequently because a friend had the Tumahawk Gallery up there but never rode the train.
I guess it's pretty cool.
