Default Flu vaccine recommendations

Advertise Here

I normally don't get a flu shot but this year I think I will. Last December or so I was sick for well over a week while usually I don't get the flu.
September begins flu season but advise is to get shot in late October. That way you get highest results during peak season, it takes a couple weeks for vaccine to kick in. There is a high dose trivalent option for over 65. But I think I'll go with the quadrivalent no preservative vaccine. Any other pointers?

The high dose trivalent is intended to induce a more robust response to an age-weakened immune system. But it also only covers 3 strains instead of the 4 covered by the quadrivalent.

Not all vaccines have preservatives; those are reserved for multi-dose vials only, not single patient unit dose packages. Have a conversation with whatever provider you intend to receive the vaccine from, whether the local clinic or pharmacy, and see what they use.

Get the vaccination. It may not be perfect and cover everything but it is the best we have. Don't be a fool and skip it. The garbage about autism is and always has been garbage. Just protect yourself. Remember, you can't fix stupidity. Listen to your doctor. A real medical doctor, no a TV personality, chiropractor or naturepath. Be wise, stay healthy

Don't forget the flu vaccine isn't 100% effective at prevention. Other actions can be beneficial at preventing the flu/cold during the flu season.

I've personally had great success at prevention by using a UVB sunlamp a few times a week. I also eat healthy, with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in my diet.

I was reading an article the other day about a 2002 Harvard and Spanish University study that found moderate alcohol wine drinking significantly helpful at preventing cold and the flu bug. As the write up mentions about wine "There is no drug, herb, or medical intervention that can come close to offering that level of protection against mankind's commonest virus disease."

I have not had the flu shot in over 12 years and have not had the flu.

My wife works in a school and get the shot every year, and still gets the flu every year.

Keeping your immune system strong does help.

If you are going to get the shot, I think you can request the single dose, which does not contain the mercury preservative. Some of the medical pros in the forum may know the proper terminology for this version.

My mother got a flu shot every year for 40 or more years and every year she got sick as a dog. Sardog and I don't get them and seldom ever get the flu.

We too were sick in Dec. but, we honestly believe we had the COVID even tho it was't "supposed" to be here yet. We've talked to several other people in the community were sick the same way, same time. Just different than any regular flu anyone had, had.

My personal opinion, don't get the shot. I think it might, might help against one type of the flu but, lower your resistance to others. Just my .02.

Some good advice

Agree, get the single dose shot that does not have thimerosal

I don't ever recall having the flu for my first 50 years and for the last approximately 10 years getting the flu shot

Once I got past 50 I started getting the flu vaccine
Either way, I do not believe I have ever goteen the flu

Even if the shot is not 100% effective it tends to reduce the length, mortality, and severity of the infection
So it is worth it right there

So you ask a simple question, and the anti-vax morons reflexively ignore your question
Same old, same old

I also find that diet, exercise, and supplements help a lot
Get your macro and micro nutrients right and you go a long way to staying well

***MOD NOTE***

This isnt a pro vs anti vaccine thread. The OP just asked for suggestions. We already have two threads on pro vs anti. Go to those if you wish to participate.

Quadrivalent as soon as it as is available.

BTW, everyone's switched over to single-dose...even my county's health department.

I'm thinking that with all the Covid-19 precautions being taken, I don't think it is going to be a bad flu season. Just my dos centavos.

I eat cayenne every day. I take D3 twice a day plus I try and get outside in sun. Every morning I chop up 2 cloves of garlic and wash them down raw.

I try and not do shots except when I'm bleeding bad.
