The guy who owns the property I hunt has a bunch of Osage trees he's wanting to thin out a little bit and gave me dibs on them. I'm going to be helping him cut them down so I thought I see if any of you would be interested in some 6'-7' lengths to carve yourself a bow from.

Steve, is osage vastly superior to other more common woods? Have you made a bow out of this?

It is the excepted best wood by most traditional archers for bow making. It has qualities other woods do not possess . KF

Steve,

Are some still available? If so, I'd like one.

From what I've read, yes, it seems to be. I have yet to make a bow from it but I know it's the most-preferred by bowyers. The wood is much better at both compression (as in the belly of the bow upon draw) and flexation (as in the back of the bow). It's extremely durable, with very little 'relaxing' of the wood, which results in lessening draw-weight over time.

I have access to plenty of it. So far I've only cut one branch that I have drying in my garage, but I can cut many more. I just have to learn how to split the branches abd make good staves to start with. But from what I hear it's easy to figure-out.

I can ship it if you like. I can bring a stave to the P.O. to see what it will cost and let you know. Send me a PM if you like and we can swap email addresses and go from there.

Steve,

I am interested in making bows. I have begun something in my basement, but it is not much. I do in fact live in Illinois. I would be happy come get one.

Please email me at [email protected]. It wont let me PM you because I just started an account.

Thanks!

Mike
