Default Food Conflict in Africa

in Nygeria; Fulani (muslim herders) are clashing with native / Christian farmers over resources.

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-...ce-in-*****ia/

***Clashes between armed herdsmen and farmers in *****ia are escalating to increasingly violent episodes as a battle for scarce resources stirs long-held tensions over religion and ethnicity.

By some estimates the clashes have taken more than 500 lives this year.

In recent weeks, at least 86 people were killed in several villages in Plateau state in the middle of the country, among the deadliest of the episodes.

third world. this is where having a government with police and stuff comes in handy.
it's food, people. its a necessity.
I wonder if the elites are sitting in their gated communities with plenty of foodstuffs not knowing or caring about the hinterland.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-*...-idUSKBN1OG00I

***Clashes in Nyjeria between farmers and semi-nomadic herders have killed more than 3,600 people since 2016, most of them this year, Amnesty International said on Monday, in a report documenting an upsurge in violence that could sway the results of February 2019 elections.
Muhammadu Buhari is seeking a second term in those elections, but his campaign has taken a hit from accusations he has soft-pedaled justice for one of the sides responsible for the clashes, the herders, many of whom come from the same Fulani ethnic group as the leader.***

South Sudan issues

https://www.circleofblue.org/2019/ho...n-south-sudan/

***Last September, South Sudanese president Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar signed a peace deal ending the country’s five-year civil war. The deal halted most fighting, but the country remains in shambles, and the number of South Sudanese citizens facing food and water insecurity continues to grow. For one village the nearest functioning well is eight hours away by foot.

As the civil war winds down, other conflicts emerge in the young country. Like many African nations, resource shortages have driven a spike in farmer-herder conflict. The United Nations recently held a conference between farmers in South Sudan’s Aweil region and the nomadic people of Reziaghat, Sudan. The two groups spar annually, mainly over water. The UN conference sought to establish migration routes and included recommendations for peaceful coexistence. The country’s dry season, when migration takes place, typically lasts from January through June.

“We need water, food, health care facilities, just about everything. I know of at least 10 people who died from hunger last year, and yet more from thirst.” –Elizabeth, a resident of rural South Sudan, in reference to ongoing resource shortages in the country. ***

https://reliefweb.int/report/south-s...ater-resources

***At the beginning of every year, the nomadic people of Reziaghat in Sudan make the long journey south with their herds of cattle seeking water and places to graze in the areas around Aweil in South Sudan.

But with water resources becoming scarce in the dry season, this migration often causes significant tension and, at times, violent clashes between the cattle-keeping Reziaghat and Dinka Malual farmers who need the water for their crops.

To reduce tension, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) hosted a pre-migration conference between the groups in December, where they agreed on a series of resolutions and recommendations to encourage peaceful coexistence. The resolutions include ensuring that pastoralists entering South Sudan leave their guns behind and stick to designated routes for travel.***

This is why I don't want civil war unless it HAS to happen. Doesn't matter if it's your army or the other guys after a while. There is no way to tell who is on what side so they just end up killing or ****ing whomever they please. Food? Can't grow crops during a civil war because you're busy hiding or fighting or one of the armies burns them. In the end the only people that win are the countries you both borrowed money from or bought arms from.

Civil war is about the most uncivil thing I can think of. In this case it may have been caused by a Brit with a crayon and a map, but I really don't know enough of either their tribal relations/territories to know for sure.

ETA: Someone let me know on that last part. I don't know if a country was marked out that included different warring tribes from the start or if it all just fell apart recently.

Talking about the South Sudan post. Wow that has been a mess the last several years.

This is what happens when people don't live where the food is, and some sally struthers wanabe keeps sending food to the area which allows for a population growth that surpasses the ability to be self sufficient.

In Nygeria (you censored this country!) more children are born than in entire Europe.

It is a country going to war, because all of those young males born now will have nothing to do than to fight in 20 years.

History does not repeat, but it rhymes.

Yes!

Because you (and me) are able to take our resources from other countries and future generations:

What are you on about? The US is a net exporter of food and energy.

Those third world -holes would have all starved to death decades ago if it wasn’t for the ability and generosity of the US and a few other western countries.

Those countries are the ones exceeding carrying capacity... at least when factored by the inhabitants ability to produce. (See also Zimbabwe).
If we wouldn’t spend trillions on food relief, clean water initiatives and vaccines, this would all sort itself out naturally.

The same thing could be said about our inner city ghettos. Trillions spent and not one single thing has improved. If anything i would have to say they only got worse. Instead of tribal lords we have the likes of Al and Jesse taking the money.
