I fear the rhino may be doomed. Let's face it, this is a creature not of THIS world. It is a relic of the past, much like the dinosaur, or the now extinct large animals of North America such as the Mammoth. It is too big, too slow, too blind, and too dumb to exist in a world where it is treated as an expendable commodity.

Great and passionate story telling.
In modern Africa, eco-tourism has proven that a lot of the time, the critters are worth more to the local economy when they are alive. Because of decreasing habitat and encroachment by farmers and other rural, people some culling of Africa's wildlife populations is necessary each year. Receipts from game tags and hiring of local guides and support people like trackers and porters adds a lot to the local economy. Poachers are the scourge of modern Africa and many countries have taken a portion of their receipts and hired anti-poaching personnel. It is much like warfare, and a dangerous business hunting people with nothing to lose.

I think I'd have to agree on your solutions to the rhino poaching.

None of your pics are showing up?

Could be photodump bandwidth issues.

Thanks for another good story, Sekelbos. I will probably never have the opportunity to hunt over there, so I greatly enjoy reading about your hunts.

The pictures are visible now to everyone.

There is a setting in your user profile where you can limit images showing up on your screen. You may need to check that. If you need help, pm me and I'll walk you through the settings.

You know, every time we don't here from Sekelbos for awhile I get concerned one of these amazing hunts didn't go according to plan...

Hopefully he'll pop up soon.

Leopards, jaguars, and mountain lions the really skilled predators.
Africa has cheetahs and the unbelievable social hunting skills of lions.

My Dad did two business trips to Africa and spent a while in the bush. I still remember the knives and spears he brought home when we were teenagers. And the stories of hearing the lions at night and hyenas. That is some Continent you have there.

My brother's favorite time in 7 months going across in a truck was hiking with the mountain gorillas.

He checked into a motel once or twice the whole time. He went inside to take a shower, but did not lock the door. When he came out holding a towel there were 5-6 baboons in his room. They tore the room apart looking for food. It took about 20 minutes to convince them to leave.
