Default The Slingshot and Blowgun as a hunting weapon.

This is the 2nd video from the new location (The Ozarks). As winter arrives foraging for wild plants becomes harder and a hunter gatherer has to rely more heavily on his hunting skills. In this video we go over one of my favorite hunting weapons the slingshot, I'm joined by Kyle who brings his preferred weapon the blowgun. We go over some of the basics, technique and overview of these low weight, compact and quiet weapons.

Yeah, along with a boomarang and bolas, I trust them to feed my family.

But honestly, Id rather have a Marlin model 60 any day.

The slingshot is quite viable for up to rabbits depending on those bands, but the blowgun in the OP video is a bit undersized for most things from the looks of it. I suppose it depends on how it is employed though

I like my cold steel magnum with the extension for squirrel control out to 30-40yds, but that is .625cal and about 68". The ones in the store that I have tried at .40 cal are too short (24-36") and dainty for non-poisonous applications IMHO. And poisons are just silly for my use.

I tried a boomerang once and would likely kill myself before any wild game.

Default The Slingshot and Blowgun as a hunting weapon.

I know this is a old thread, but was wondering if anyone had looked at the 80 lb crossbow on Amazon for $30. This thing has really good reviews, it's very cheap but if you use some Loctite to set the screws and keep the rails waxed they say this thing will last a long time. Check out their comments.Attachment 106725Click image for larger version

Ex astronaut, John Glenn, has been an avid big game hunter. He made it a point to carry a wrist rocket and upland game bird license when hunting and people who shared camp with him often shared in fresh grouse in the evenings. I don't know much about blow guns, but have been under the impression that they were generally designed for poison. In our culture, the sling shot is the norm. In other areas of the world, the sling (basically two cords and a pouch) are the norm.

I've used slingshot for small animals and blowdart for animals of all sizes up to groundhog and raccoon. I prefer the blowgun for the wide range of ammo you can produce for different game. It is also much easier to recover after shooting and I find it much easier to aim, but I'm sure that would come if I practiced the slingshot more. I also this blowgun is better because I have had the rubbers go out on slingshot more than once. Not much to go wrong on a blowgun.

I advise buying quality products. A real crossbow will last you alot longer.

I have one of those. It's pretty accurate and the darts hit hard. I have noticed that you can see the wind carry the darts.

I would have to see a groundhog killed with a blowgun to believe it. those animals are tough as nails.

Every now and then we get a bit of spare time on a job site, waiting for a delivery or truck to come out to us. I usually scout around for a peice of 1" pvc conduit pipe offcut. Theres plenty of it getting around in residential construction. Then i make a little pocket on the back of a heavy concretors nail with duct tape to catch the air. Hey presto, 5 min DIY blowgun that will send a nail into wood about 3/4 of the way to the head. Bloody deadly

.22 pellet rifle works best for my area. However, slingshots and blowguns work for squirrels and rabbits. Blowguns are pretty accurate if you have one a few feet long and practice. Slingshot is good too, but keep extra surgical tubing or band material, it wears out fast with use.

Slingshot with a 00 buckshot will drop a rabbit or raccoon or other small game. I have them in my kits.
