The more states in CA, the more senate/house seats. The more senate/house seats, the more liberals and Democrats. I can see where this is going. There are many conservatives but they are outnumbered. Add legalized pot to the mix and there is only one way this will go. CA now has jumped to the leading state with the most poor people. Have you seen their homeless tent cities? CA is now a sanctuary state. CA is CAput.

Maybe if there was a national civil war and everything went for crap but I doubt it would happen otherwise.

Houston is pretty bad too. There is a tent city less than a mile from my home. I can't wait until we can afford to move.

Maybe not. That is the basis of the separation from what I understand. The Eastern part of California is rural and much more conservative than the coast south from SF to LA. Many people in the Central Valley don't want to have anything to do with west part of the state

Let them do it and then impose a full / complete blockade of the new "state" - no inbound or outbound food, water, power, travel, funds

There are only two viable solutions for California:

1. Let it politically break away from the United States and form its own country. They can then continue to refine their insanity without it being a taxpayer expense to the sane parts of the USA.

2. Let it physically break away from the United States and sink into the ocean. Scientists have been predicting this might occur for at least the last 50 years. However, just like global warming, the reality has not yet matched their projections. I'm still hoping to sell oceanfront property in Arizona.

The last thing we want to do is to add more Senate and House seats to any derivative of California.

There was a movement 20 to 25 years ago to split California into North and South states. At the time, almost all the problems were in the south and the north got tired of paying the bills.

It'd be interesting. The new CA would have to be have a blockade or be locked off from the rest of the state and the country. But they would be broke, bankrupt and unable to even feed their people so the blockade would be needed to not let they infect other states when they decided to leave and start ruining yet another area.

I think you have this backwards. On the map in the article, the blue portion, which covers the majority of the state, would be the state of New California. These guys want to break away from the insanity in the yellow portion. The part that needs to be blockaded is the yellow portion.

Split it into 3 states
Each State gets 2 Senators, So the US Senate would have 54 Senators.

California's 53 Representatives would be split between the 3 States according to population.

Doesn't it seem like we are in something of a civil war now? Not like a military war such as the 1860's but a legal war.

California has legalized weed which is illegal under federal law. It also wants to be a "sanctuary" state in direct contradiction of federal immigration law.

Usually when the discussion of secession comes up I just dismiss it as not really being a serious discussion. These days I'm not so sure.

I'm all for the 'blue CA' if it follows what the state of Jefferson was pushing for. If it delivers a complete punch-in-the-mouth to yellow CA, all the better.

Would the New CA have control of water rights -- if there is such a thing -- to the coast?

There is some backing for the State of Jefferson! It would include California north of Sacramento, and Oregon from Roseburg south. These areas are mostly conservative, and we hate being dictated to by Portland/Eugene, along with SF, Socal, and Sacramento. The logical capitol could be Yreka.

Thanks - You're right, I was looking at it the other way around; but the rest of my comment stands: cut them off in every conceivable way and let them starve.

Need to split up Colorado while we're at it: the I 25 corridor can be New Denver, and the rest can be Colorado.

Do you think the hacks that draw districts would draw a state line that reflected population, or take the 4 or 5 big democrat cities and put one in each state to ensure blueness?
I bet they have an app for that already.

I agree with you in spirit. If California wants to secede I would demand a 1000 year lease on two deep water ports, San Diego and SF. I bet they would go for it because if our Navy docks there that would benefit the local economy.
