Cool Can Someone Help Me?

Advertise Here

Friends,

I'm on a 5 or 6 year old Apple using "Safari" as a Web Browser.

The last time we updated Safari…

There is a small horizontal window atop of the page. I used to be able to punch in a web address there and Safari would take me there.

More importantly, If I wanted to share a link all I had to do was highlight and copy the web address.

Now all I get is a "Readers Digest" version of the web address and bollixing around in that little window with my Cursor causes Safari to shut down more often than not.

How can I post a Web Link that Friends can click on?

Damned upgrades and the built-in necessity to download them.

I very much prefer staying with what I got…

I truly wish I could help you but I ain't no where smart enuff. My Momma told me to never use a machine smarter than I am. Because of this sage advice I still use crank pencil sharpeners instead of the electric ones and a computer is way out of my league. You lost me at "Safari". If my 15 year old daughter ever returns from her grandparents I'll assign her to assist you.

1. Open safari, go to dell.com
2. Purchase dell.

Just kidding.

Have you tried downloading another web browser like firefox or chrome. Not sure the direct issue you are having but chrome or firefox should run on an apple and then us PC people can help you.

What your talking about seems to be what's happening in all the popular browsers; The removal of the URL field... They want to make that area a Search box, so everything you type goes through the search engine to better collect data on just what your viewing... In Chrome, at least for now, when you select an existing site you can modify the actual url, but they don't show it to you until you click on it to change.

You might try looking for "old Versions" of browsers to get back functionality... Pages don't display properly all the time, but Opera v10.10 on x86 PC's has way more control over how a page is displayed/used than chrome/firefox.

First, I suggest using Google Chrome. It works well on my older Macs. Also, you might want to run Software Update to make sure you're using the newest versions of the OS and Safari that your computer will run.

If you'll post which versions of the OS and Safari are running in your computer, it might help find a solution. That info can be found under the Apple menu > About this Mac and About Safari.

Some questions or ideas...

If you had saved some websites as favorites, you can easily click on them from the Favorites bar (along the top) or sidebar (along the side) and have Safari go direct to them.
- Start Safari
- for the top bar, navigate to View -> Show Favorites Bar
- for the side bar, navigate to View -> Show Bookmarks Sidebar

You can turn off the Search suggestions in the Search/URL window that you are typing into if you would prefer to not see additional search results.
- Start Safari
- Navigate to Safari -> Preferences, then click on the Search tab in the Preferences window
- Uncheck "include search engine suggestions"
- Close the Preferences window
- Quit or COMMAND-Q Safari to ensure the change takes effect

Safari shows a page name until you click on it then it highlights the full url. Then click on edit tab, then click copy. A paste-able link then goes to you clipboard that you can share. Or so it works for me.

I now use Firefox on the iMac. Safari works a little better on the iPad. The above works on either platform for me.

You can right click on the grey area, near where the red/yellow/green dots are located. That brings up the
option to "customize toolbar". Check it out.
