OP and others have already nailed the major issues.

A possible WW III is the real wild card. We know US military action of some sort is pending. I am not sure I buy the drug cartel excuse. This could get out of hand real quick. Think EMP/nuke.

Mark Lavin said it best tonight when he said another stimulus boost would ruin our economy. Leave it alone and we can bounce back. Don't do another bail out. They have done almost too much damage with the first bail out.

Major geopolitical problems.

I doubt China gets too frisky.

Iran could cause trouble. Imagine they annex Iraq creating new Shiite super state, with the support of Russia.

Food supply chain breaks down. Power grid fails and takes the internet with it. Drinking water becomes unsafe. Mass unemployment and poverty leads to greatly increased crime. The social fabric, which hasn't been good to start with these days, falls apart completely. No healthcare, no food, no leadership; we wind up like the idiot family in "After Armageddon".

There is a shortage of vents now, wait until there is also a shortage of respiratory therapist Drs, CRNA and Anesthesiologist to place patients on the vent and keep them stable. You can't outsource that to an orderly or volunteer.

First, terrorist attacks against truckers.

Second, next that causes food shortage.

Third, martial law at the local level. Civil unrest due to food shortage.

Fourth, cyber attack, net down.

Fifth, opec and russia get to shootin. Oil issue.

Timed properly for coming winter rolling blackouts and people freezing.

After all that feds nationalize every critical businesses and we are now soviets.

The govornors keep playing politics.

What HAS happened:
Virginia: The Gov. there ordered "Big Box' stores to stop selling "non essential items"

New Mexico: The Gov here ignores the DHS statement that gun stores are essencial and prohibits retail sales.

CA: Gov. orders complete lockdown.

NJ and NY: Everyone Mask up, this may become a Federal deal, but then comes the fines:

Some states are pushing for a reprieve on renters, ok good. What about the mortgages?

NV: Gov. orders that a potential good drug to be prohibited to be prescribed for COVID because it came "from Trump".

The list goes on.

What these morons are doing is stopping what needs to be done in some cases. Buy ammunition. Gardening supplies (especially the fact that growing season has started).

Keeping people home rather than distance and stopping an economy. There will be serious hell to be paid come Nov. provided they don't "October Surprise" everyone.

The kids are out of school, OK, great time to teach them and parents O know are lost to what to do! This is liberal mindset at work, and the seeds they sowed so many years ago are being reaped now.

The worst case is a Mao 5 year plan situation for this year given no one is allowed to work and thus, no production of anything.
Brilliant thinking.

There's no denying we are in a very vulnerable state in every fashion.

* Military. Hard to train, recruit, etc. with this virus about.
* Healthcare. Reports I've read and people with whom I've talked say all non-essential medical is canceled or postponed. The ramifications and implications are staggering. Healthcare workers have low PPE, and if not already overwhelmed they are preparing to be.
* Utilities like water, electric, gas, etc. Any interruption now is far more difficult.
* Economy. Crashing daily. 10 million unemployed and growing, collapsing stock market propped up by printing and borrowing. Minimal essential only travel and trade.
Most industries directly impacted, and every American is somehow impacted directly from employment, housing, income, investments, shopping, food and essentials, schooling, etc..
* Law and order is being threatened. Cops withdrawing, jails releasing inmates, minor crimes being ignored... recipe for anarchy.

This reads like the plot to a horror movie.

Any compounding problem will be far worse. I've heard tough talk between US and Iran, between Russia and Israel, the Saudies are in a an oil war with several nations plummeting oil prices, the world is angry at China with accusations of a bioweapon floating around in many directions... any of these could turn into a shooting war.

How can a person prepare for all of this? It's very hard...

Much of what we've seen following disasters, civil unrest and need, in places like Venezuela, Argentina, Italy will take place, the degree of incidents, whether they become rare or common is what I don't know.

1. Trucks will be jacked. Right now, with certain items, they've become very valuable and the level of protection has not yet been raised. The merch can be moved rather rapidly and in big quantities by people who would normally NOT be in such a market.

2. Violence from Mob hysteria. People are angry. They're feeling helpless, and they want to blame others. I think a lot of the peculiar, vague murders taking place are tied to this and a lot of odd hit and runs of pedestrians, even a woman coming out of a store with her child and a shopping cart. She was hit so hard, in a parking lot, that it killed her.

3. More shop lifting followed by direct snatch and grab and then fearless grab and walk to vehicles with merch is already happening. If the media doesn't suppress it, we'll be seeing looting taking place in the usual places, and some surprising ones.

4. Labor problems causing disruptions. Unions are flexing their muscles, and there's desperation. Not a time to become a scab when it happens. Not a time to be a loud mouth organizer either.

5. People bailing on their essential jobs. It's not worth it to them, they can't continue with the level of risk. Or in states like mine, people are PAID to be sick at a sickeningly high rate, both their sick leave and some additional state money! We're seeing it already. In Washington because of that Leave thing, for many, you get paid MORE to be out sick then you do working-sick leave or any leave, combined with the money provided through tax dollars from those working. It's actually lucrative for them.

Put Nancy in charge of all decisions,

Natural Disasters get my vote for how this situation could get worse, in addition to many of the things mentioned above. The unpredictability of Natural disasters and the shock it imbues in people is intense. The predicted Hurricane season looks nasty. Big Earthquakes in the West, I for one experienced the bigger one (6.5) on Tuesday, March 31. Took my mind off of things for a minute, and I am 100 miles from epicenter, so no damage here. The epicenter was in the mountains, so no casualties or widespread damage. Feeling Lucky!

I've talked to a lot of people. During this lockdown, they are binge-watching everything on every channel to stay busy/take their minds off things. Internet/powergrid going down would be the tipping point for total anarchy to erupt.

If only!

Back in 1933, CONgress declared that THEY weren't going to pay on their debt (Federal Reserve NOTES) via HJR 192, despite 12 USC Sec. 411.
However, they DO accept their own notes as tender in lieu of lawful money (gold / silver coin).

Can you GUESS how 329 million Americans became obligated parties on that debt, so that every note is now "their" obligation and thus legal tender?

Hint: It involves being a "contributor" equally liable on a claim.
Hint: It involves underwriting the Federal government (aka "Federal Insurance")
Hint: It allows a bankrupt CONgress to serve the creditor's interest without violating the CONstitution.
Hint: The fiduciary agent for the IMF, World Bank, etc, is the Federal Reserve Corporation. (see Title 22 usc sec. 286a about who pays the "U.S. governor".)

Give up?

(Depending on context, a state can refer to geography (dirt), a government, or a people occupying a land, with shared language and customs.)

Worst case:

Religious orders begin to take over care for the sick, for little cost, since they only require subsistence, and thus undermine the glorious socialist state's dominance, and greatly annoy the atheists and irreligious, who chafe at such unselfish service to others.
And they revive using inexpensive natural remedies that cut out the Big Pharma from their profits.
Then government finally gives up control over healthcare, and it ceases to be an expensive government privilege, but returns to being a right.

(addendum: unselfish private charitable service without remuneration avoids the bottleneck caused by "not enough money" and shows the remedy to "money madness".)

Bad natural disaster season. Fires, Floods, Hurricanes, with no money left for recovery....followed by serious election irregularities prompting civil war.

I expect that the USA is going to sort of recover from the coronavirus. OP reminds me of a few things, though.

-Something funny happened with the USS Comfort. They were trying to use it in NYC for non-coronavirus hospital patients, to free up space in the regular hospitals for coronavirus patients.

However,
since people are sheltering in place, or not allowed to work, there are a lot less auto accidents, shootings, and construction accidents. So the Comfort is filling up very slowly.

Looks like another fiasco within a fiasco, and maybe also shows that the people in charge aren't always as smart as we think they are.

-Even though the USA may recover from the epidemic without any apocalyptic damage, maybe it will lead to societal trends in the following years that tend to harm us.

I could see the outbreak being connected to a decade of immorality. The disease will kill off a lot of old-fashioned people and authority figures. People are concerned now about people having to shelter in place with their abuser. I read that a third of the tipsters to child abuse hotlines are teachers, because teachers are the ones who notice the signs. Now, however, the school children are away from their teachers. Also, besides kids being out of school, criminals are being let out of prison, instead of an alternative solution which might make a lot more sense. I've already seen articles about violent child rapists being let of prison because of covid19.

Also just having something not normal happen to your school year maybe isn't good for you. It could have been something as simple as moving to a new town. I don't think the schools are going to have the students repeat a year because of coronavirus, but maybe what's happening is sort of almost as bad as that. Or maybe it will have some weird effect on kids we're not foreseeing. I guess a kid could tell you. Or maybe a teacher.

So all this could lead to kids growing up kind of screwed up. Also, of course, there's the fact that the epidemic and quarantines could be scaring the heck out of them. Gee, have I forgot anything???

And then besides just the effects specifically on kids, there are also the economic effects that could tend to get people involved in crime... And of course, a bad economy by itself will also have a bad effect on a lot of people's childhoods...

Of course, the entertainment industry and the media are never really fighting to shore up morality. We can't expect them to see a bad moral trend, and to try to combat it. They're always putting some disgusting gangster thot up on a pedestal now. You couldn't even get on TV anymore and say that it's awful. If they see a trend of kids being bad, I think any criticism of it is going to be half-hearted at best. More likely there will be lukewarm criticism out of one side of their mouths, and some kind of enthusiastic encouragement from the other side.

-There are forecasts of a bad hurricane season now, so we could have bad storm damage on top of the covid19 related problems.

-The peaks are going to happen later than here in Africa and other parts of the world... And the government is keeping limits on travel from applying to refugees... What if, just as the curve gets flattened, it starts to get bad in Africa and other Third World places, and a lot of those people flee here??? And what if they push around a lot of American kids, in their vulnerable state due to the coronavirus??

Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi are going to make this worse. Because they're already politicizing the virus and it hasn't even started. They are starting up a commission and they'll eventually file more articles of impeachment because they have nothing to run on. They're leaving Biden in the shadows because they know the more he talks the dumber he gets. They'll pack more bills with unrelated political hot potatoes trying to ram them through.

Our political divide will grow even faster even though cities that tend to be Blue and old people that tend to be Red are in the virus' cross hairs. They'll find a way to politicize housing density and age; which has nothing to do with politics. So far every country except South Korea is following the same pattern regardless of their political structure. Because the virus doesn't care about politics.
