Kinda the point of this website.
Get in the car. We're surviving!

Oh! I think I am doing that. Preventing myself from getting a virus is not one of them. I keep 3 of my 5 grandchildren every time they get sick. So far I have never gotten sick from keeping them. I never worry about it like my wife.

My guns are proof I worry and do something about the things I worry about.

Uh, there is NO treatment for this bug at the moment, so anyone surviving it is "getting better on their own'. Meaning their own immune system is what defends them.

Hospital is only supportive treatment. (IV Fluids). Possibly inhalation therapy with steroid or something.
And putting you at risk for all the lovely super bugs permeating the hospital.

China is now saying over 40,000 are infected in Wohan. I live near a university town that has Chinese students. China is starting to shut down. Stock market in China is starting to crash.

This is a classic example of America needing to bring back the factories and make our own stuff.

Since the last 50 years or so China is where all new flu strains have begun. Mostly due to their agricultural practice of raising pigs and chickens together. Bird flu strains go to the chickens, mutate, then go to the hogs, mutate, then go to humans. Back and forth it goes. Conditions are dirtier than here. Bats in their barns or buildings have droppings get into hog and chicken feed. So bats are involved also. So many people that are packed into very large cities also make stuff spread faster. I could go on.

It also doesn't help that they experiment with bio weapons nearby when they are supposed to be outlawed.

Actually they're being kept alive long enough to recover by repeated draining of the lungs, oxygen, and often ventilators. Even lung bypasses.

I agree the common flu kills a lot of people in the US at times, but this thing is getting a response from China that I didn't see when it was Bird Flu or SARS.

Map I saw this morning shows global spread. I think quarantine is an important tool but it seems China did not act soon enough. Given global travel I am not sure they could have. I hope we are more on top of this than they were but I suspect not. It seems the CDC is late to act also.

There is not much information on the news except spread. No symptoms to look for, no word on how the virus is spread, no word on incubation period, just a bunch of grandstanding on the spread.

I have already made adjustments in my portfolio for this virus. At least on the down side. I am not sure which companies will be good investments if this becomes a pandemic.

No need to worry because there seems to be little that can be done.

Suppose one child in a school gets the virus. Closing the school will likely be too late. Parents, brothers and sister likely will have spread the virus. So unless you are prepared to isolate yourself there is little you can do. Worry will not help.

Worry sparks actions. Actions can save lives. But glad you got your investments straight...…..

Well_ I cannot say you are wrong but too many worry beyond what they can do. I am sure there are two different words: one that sparks action and one that is counter productive. I just do not have the vocabulary to know them.

I do not call doing what you can with facts worry. But I cannot say what else to call it.

Chris Martenson has put out 3 videos over the weekend. I just watched all 3 and they are short and to the point. It looks like people over 60 are the majority dying of this virus, however, the mortality demographic is creeping toward younger age groups.

The city of Wuhan held a buffet to celebrate the lunar new year. They had 40,000 people attend; probably not the best idea during a virus outbreak.

The most useful graphics about coronavirus 2019-nCoV may be from the South China Morning Post web site scmp.com
They're in Hong Kong so on the doorstep of mainland China and they update the graphic multiple times a day.

Today's post (US time), Wuhan, China is 13 hours ahead of EST:
http://www.scmp.com/news/china/artic...hubei-province

Scroll down until you see the graphic with big numbers.

Their articles include what other countries are doing (such as Japan also denying entry to people coming from China).

This is an opinion not an objective conclusion: China's population is so dense; the health of its population so varied; the healthcare available so varied; that we seem to panic when any virus, bacteria, etc. causes unusual numbers of deaths.

The flip side is global travel being what it is person to person transfer can spread globally quickly.

I tend not to worry and believe too much is made of these. In other words the media cries wolf far too often.

We will pay for this.

Yes a great case study,
And it is a chance to practice, gain some experience, and get the “bugs” out of the system, before a more deadly pandemic strikes.

Just read an article in my newspaper covering the US restricting travel and such. Biggest point presented was that someone can test positive for the virus one day and not the next and vice versa.
