Wink Is anyone here living off the grid in West Michigan?

Advertise Here

I'm new to this forum site. Im from West Michigan, but have been traveling all over the world for the past 3 years after leaving WallStreet. Anyway, I am checking in here to see if anyone knows of any off-the-grid, homesteading, or community gardening or co-op type living properties that may be in the West Michigan area.

I am a yogini, sailor, writer, & outdoors enthusiast & I work remotely as a Project Manager, so I can take my job anywhere. I truly would Love to live off the grid, volunteering with gardening, taking care of animals, etc. and connecting to other beautiful humans who have a shared vision.

I would love to hear if you have any ideas, and connect on here to like-minded outdoorsy people, who appreciate living off the land, close to nature, & are starting to think of alternative ways of living considering our current crisis.

thanks in advance for any ideas you can share

Michigan is typically cost prohibitive to be completely living off the grid. I am in Michigan and for me I would have to pay 20 years worth of natural gas and electric to be off grid living at my current level. My BIL lived in California and had a much easier time but the “community” he lived in was a pot community. Primary projects were pot based and the rest was secondary. They grew around $5-6 million a year worth. Everyone did what they wanted to and when they wanted. Things took 5 times longer because they wanted to do things the cheap way and were always high.

Good luck finding anything what you are looking for in Michigan that isn’t highly drug influenced.

Which part are you referring to? I had a solar guy come out and survey MY house. For me to be off grid (not net neutral) it would cost about $20-25k.

”Drug influenced”? Not sure what you meant by that. Yep it’s not worth it. Mich gets maybe 65 days of sunshine which also doesn’t help matters much.

Pot is legal for use in Michigan by adults, anyone can grow. No money in that anymore except for the dispensaries. Can’t believe you’re lumping it in with meth.

Except that it is federally illegal. That’s not the issue though. Alcohol is pretty common too. No one really gets things done at when people are high and drunk.
