Ah OK, thanks. Yeah I see the Mel name mentioned a bunch around here. Never in a good way either.

Glad I missed all of that then.

As a new member, I do not understand why anyone here would trust someone again who sold you out to a corporation.

Trust is not necessary.

Everything has a lifespan, including forums.

Was on ones before this one, will probably be on others afterwards.

It's a business entity, not a marriage. We are the product in exchange for a platform ("soapbox" so to speak).

I hate that it sounds so cold, but it is what it is. And besides, nothing this side of Armaggedon is permanent. Even if he pledged to keep us all in a happy place for the rest of his life, "time and unforeseen occurrences befall us all."

There is no trust.

Nor is trust required.

Maybe the manner in which it was handled is part of the trust issue. Going from a single, vocal owner to a faceless corp. is a big deal in many peoples' minds, worthy of lots of info.

I doubt they'll close this site. They might not list it on their list of sites they own, but they've paid money for this site and gun related sites, etc. They're earning money back from them. It doesn't make good business sense to buy something that is earning you money in return, then just throw it away.

They can still push their liberal agenda while keeping sites like this one open. If we see them start closing gun related sites one after another, then we need to be on alert. They would be a far more likely target than survival related ones. Still, it's always good to have a backup plan.

It's was his business. He can do anything he wants with it. It didn't hurt us one bit. The only issues were from people inventing issues. I can see the authors being unnerved until the new TOS was clarified. But it didn't have a negative effect on the rest of us (nor them, in the end).

If anything, we gained. Remember the days of bugginess, crashing, data loss, lagging and hard times logging in, etc? We even had a mod get so frustrated with the log in problems that he just left the site. It was an almost constant problem. Fix one thing, something else would act up. How soon we all forget. I'll take what we have now, over what we had then, anyday!

I am certainly not going to sign up for Mel's forum....I got a warning like every other week from her

One of the most useful things I got off this forum early on where some of Jerry D Young's spreadsheets with lists on them. I also got a ton of useful farming /homesteading info when we first got started.

Now, it is better than the average news media site for any news

All true. I was on a travel forum for many years, and had a ton of stuff uploaded there including many photos and I only had a small amount of stuff compared to some people. We had actual meetings in places all over the planet and I made some good friends there. But, it got bought up by a bigger company and shut down. We did get a 2 months warning to take our stuff off , and they made it fairly easy to download everything. But it was still very upsetting. So don't get too attached to any internet stuff, might be gone tomorrow.
Oh , and the travel forum moved to FB and turned into a leftist soap box which I left really fast. FB destroys things like that ( but it's ok to find hay and farm stuff on)

I remember the day she freaked out on a poster and then was gone. IMHO a bit unhinged to be a moderator.

Not saying it wasn't Kev's right to sell. Just saying people are people and we tend to like knowing how things are. It was a bit of an unnerving change. There is, right or wrong a sense of trust here a bit. If not, many would not be taking time to post. The thought of the effort put forth going poof now is a bit disconcerting.

Mel and her enablers brought this place to the brink. It's just recently started to recover.

If enough people are interested, I can put together some forums. I was thinking about a social media safe haven for conservatives anyway. The ideal model would be a distributed blockchain model where no one entity owns the platform. Each person owns their own personal data.

I dont have time to moderate, so would need a core group of moderators. I would be happy pay for everything.
